Rubber sounding squeak coming from front end?
I have a rubbery sounding squeak coming from somewhere in the fron end. It sounds like it is coming from the front left wheel area or possbibly more towards the middle of the car.
Car is a 96 accord, 120k miles. Tires and brakes all new. Right front cv boot was shot so front axle was also just replaced. The squeak started developing a few weeks after axel was replaced.
I do get a squeak when I push down on the car, same on both sides but it is a quieter squeak than I am hearing while driving at low speeds. I can sit with the car parked and just moved the steering wheel back and forth and I hear the louder sqeak. Not feeling any change in steering.
The sound does happen in unison with the movement of what looks like a rubber boot covering over some part of the steering (mid section, not the axle) but sounds more like it comes from the wheel area.
So not sure if it a Bushing, Tie Rod, Ball joint ??? Any ideas on cause. Safety issue??
thx!!!

Lubing the bushings should do it. Cold weather makes them squeak and squawk. Come to think of it, I need to crawl under my Accord and drench its bushings in silicone.
Thx! I'm hoping it is that simple. This is the second winter I've had the car. No squeaking last year in the cold but I'll try it.
I got underneath with someone turning the wheel for me and the noise is either coming from the left wheel area or... sorry I don;t know the name of the parts but... there is a bar between the wheels (not thee front axle) with a rubber boot or covering in roughly the middle that moves from side to side as the wheel is turned back and forth. The rubbery scraping sound is in unison with that movement. It's really hard to tell if the sound is from the wheel area or this other part.
I was going to take it to a mechanic yesterday to check it since I;m concerned about safety but it was raining and much of the noise was gone. I could still hear it a little over the wavy bumpy roads but not nearly as load as the few days before.

Mine was having the same issues, it was my lower control arms. That squeak was super annoying!
I replaced my bushings. I should've just got the Moog LCA @ 46.00 per side from Rockauto.

Thats your steering rack and pinion you were referring to. You make need to tighten you castle nut on you tie rod ends. Or check to see if the boot on the tie rod end isn't damaged for dry rubbing.
