Default B16 vs b18

Would u gain any power from putting a b16 head on a gsr block (bolt ons) if so how much roughly and what would it take besides a tune.

No, there is no appreciable difference. An unmodded B16 head flows negligably faster than an unmodded B18 head, which theoretically means there is slightly more high end and less low end on a B16 head. AFAIK no dyno has enough precision to demonstrate a difference. Of course, this all goes out the window the minute any head work is done.

One advantage B18 heads have is quench pads, meaning you can theoretically run higher compression without having detonation.

Bottom line: keep whatever head you have and if you want to spend money on your head, spend it on headwork rather than a new head.

That all makes sense but why is the b16 used on the type r engine(I'm guessing cams or the pistons make different comp?) also used on the b20(fs).

Rumor has it that Honda had a lot of unused B16 heads lying around, so to save money they used them on the ITRs.

Gsr head > b16 head

The only reason people 'think' b16 heads are good is because of the fact you can put a type R manifold on it.

Either way, the gsr head, valves, cams, intake, etc etc, is much better. Also it lowers compression by having a smaller combustion chamber, it also prevents detonation. I'd avoid sticking a b16 head on, its useless, plus the GSR manifold gives you a nice torque curve, epic for Daily drivin

Hmm, someone told me that sticking a b16 head on my B18a1 motor would "definitely" give me more power... I had my doubts but this is nice to read up on
