Temperature Controller issue
Greets:
I have a '97 Accord LX and am experiencing a "temperature controller" problem. On the Heater Panel, the temp controller **** can be easily turned from cool to hot and back w/o any resistance. I pulled the **** and inspected both, the **** itself and the stem. Neither are stripped which leads me to believe the I have a malfunctioning temperature controller or a disconnected "air mix control cable".
My question is this: Is it a major task to remove the dash so the I'm able to access the internals of the heater panel? The only detailed service manual I was able to quickly locate is on a '94 Accord Coupe. Are there any recommendations as to where I may locate a detailed '97 Accord LX service manual?
Any suggestions/ideas are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Michael

Why not pull the little cover (kind of looks like a vent, single push button holds it on) on the pass side (black?) right where the "hump" and console meet. the move the **** and see if the cable is connected to the mix door?

First, thanks for the expeditious response. I went ahead and checked "automanualsource.com" and on their list, the vehicle manuals for the Accord start in 1998. I did send them a message asking if they may know of a source for the 1997 model. Is there much difference between the '97 & '98 models?? If not, I can just purchase the '98 manual.
Regarding your additional information, I'm actually going back out there to see what I can disassemble w/o getting in too deep.
Thanks again & please advise of any further suggestions.

Yes there is a difference between the 97 and 98 (that is the change from the 5th gens-94-97 and the 6th gens - 98-02). Sorry, I thought they had the 97. You'd be better off with a manual for the 94.

Get the one from spoonertuner, helped me before I bought a true factory service manual.

Tnx for the info! I went ahead and tried to determine what was causing it to not rotate properly, but really couldn't access the cable that's connected inside. I was able to turn the white lever that is a part of the temperature controller device, but remain unsuccessful in obtaining heat. I'm gonna check out the '94 coupe manual as you suggested and see what transpires. Tnx again and I'll post another reply after I attempt to rectify the problem.

Check the "valve". Once you have the manual it will help (sec 21, pg 25).
Note that this is set up with two cables, first goes from the knowb to the "blend door", the second goes from the blend door to the heater control valve.....so if the **** is moving the arm on the blend door, be sure the second cable is moving the heater control valve. No resistance could mean the valve is not connected...the adjustment is to be sure all the parts are moving to the proper position....ever had the **** to "cool" yet still feel warm air coming out of the vent....guess what, it is out of adjustment
