dohc zc ef hatch temp gauge not working and clutch slippage?
ok i just traded my da that i pretty much restored from a broken down ricer to a legit jdm honda, so thanks all of those on hondatech who helped me get her rollin, i appreciate all the help and the people who gave me tips. Thank you all
Now for my new project.... Ihave a 91 dohc zc swapped ef hatch i got in a trade. My temp gauge doesnt seem to work, it goes from all the way down to maybe a quarter of the way then goes back down or doesnt move at all... Any suggestions on how to fix it?
Also i drove the car and it doesnt grab gear till the your foot is pretty much off the clutch, and then when you floor it in the same gear it just revs and hardly picks up. The clutch pedal must be almost let go for it to grab when shifting also.... Is this clutch slippage? And if so can i adjust this? Or does my new project get a new clutch for an early xmas present? Any help would be appreciated

For the clutch problem it sounds like the clutch is going bad on it or the pressure plate. But for your clutch pedal looseness, you can adjust by the pastic screw on the outside of the transmission on the throwout bearing arm. As far as the tempature gauage I'm not sure what to tell you. Someone else here might be able to help you. But it sounds like the gauge is messed up to me.
Try adjusting your clutch cable first. If it has excessive slack, you could throw a brand new clutch in and still have the same problem.
As for temp, I'd verify the car has a thermostat in it. Make sure you have a good connection at the sending unit.

im gonna adjust the cable and hopefully it helps a bit, if not my buddy has a new clutch he's gonna give me. Im gonna do a full fluids flush hopefully this weekend so i'll check if theres a thermostat in there at all. Where should i check for bad connections? Could the cluster just be bad?
I just noticed you have a ZC so the sending unit may be different from my motor, but mine is located on the side of the head right below the distributor. One wire connected to a little prong sticking out of the head.
The zc has the temp. sending unit in the same place as other d-series(under the dizzy). It could definately be the cluster because when I did a cluster swap in mine the temp gauge would just shoot straight up to hot when it was cold. So mabye its the cluster itself or the wiring to it. I couldn't figure mine out so I just put in a water temp gauge from autozone and it works.
For the clutch from what you said about it not engaging till the pedal is nearly released it sounds like your clutch cable is to tight. If you loosen it and it still does it i'd replace it.

Look at the temp gauge plug under the dizzy its a little black plug u can pick one up at a junkyard off a dseries mine didn't work I got one and just wired it and its working perfect!!
