Is the GSR engine the same as a LS, but just with greater compression?? Ana are they SOHC or DOHC? Which one would be the best for a mean streat racer/daily driver?
There are many differences between the LS engine (B18B) and the GSR engine (B18C1). Much more than compression.
B18C1 has vtec, oil squirters, better flowing head, lighter internals, knock sensors
B18B has a lower rod/ratio, more displacement, less compression

ahh what is better a 100 hp motor or a 140 hp motor. hmmmmm
...and what if the 100hp motor had 100 lbs of torque, while the 140hp had 60 lbs of turque. hmmmmm
(And no I wasn't reffering this to a GSR in relation to LS or nothing, I just didn't like his response)

Yes stupid question but don't all you vtec worshippers go on flaming the b18b saying it has 100hp to the gsr's almighty 140hp... your just a moron too. Dyno a typical ls is has around 120whp, and a gsr 150whp give or take.

Dumb question? I got one... what will it take for an LS to compete with a GSR? I.e., will an LS with intake, headers, cat, and exhaust (Comptech all the way through) beat a stock GS-R?
Thx,

i think he was talking about dyno numbers, not flywheel ratings.
In the real world, where most of us live and race, and GSR is barely faster than an LS. The HP+Torque numbers lie because they do not take into account the torque curve among other things. Its a lot more complex then my GSR has 170hp and your car has 142hp. Like what if the car with 142hp has a constant powerband with a flat torque curve and the 170hp is very peaky with a crappy torque curve.

just my .02, i've spent about the same as your i/h/e would cost you on a act stage 2 clutch and i've beat of gsrs since. the ls losses a lot of power, and my clutch helped out a lot. i didn't even expect the wheel power gain, but i got it. i only put it in because i'm going turbo and i didn't think the exhuasted clutch would hold up to the power. it was a very nice surpise.

knock sensors on b18c? really? how do i tell if it's knocking? i heard the engine on another gsr and man was it QUIET compared to mine...(but i think my heat sheild just vibrates too loud...gotta get that fixed)
