Battery Light On, Alternator & Battery Replaced
Hi Guys,
I have a 2001 Civic EX 2DR,
Yesterday the battery light came on, First I swapped the battery, it was still under warranty. - Light Still ON
After the battery replacement, I replaced the alternator with a used but tested OEM Honda/Mitsubishi unit. - Light Still ON
Pulled out the meter, and found the following numbers, checked at several different times.
Voltage with Car OFF, 12.6-13.7, depends how long the car was off.
Voltage with Car @ Idle, Checked at Battery 15.0-15.5/6
Voltage with a load goes back down to 13.7 @ idle. At 1000-1200 rpm it is at 14v-15v.
Backprobed ELD with my meter and the voltage changed with different loads.
I had the the original alternator the one that was on when the light come on tested and autozone stated that it is good(within spec for there machine).
They also tested the new/used alternator that is on the car and also confirmed that it, my battery, and starter(not that i asked) are good.
Here is my problem,
Do I need another alternator, do the voltage's listed above show that there is a problem.
Is there a common problem or short in these vehicles.
I have heard that 15.1v is the max, anything over will damage the battery/ecu, and I have had readings of 15.5,
Could I have just had two dud alternator's in a row?
I appreciate any feedback, Thanks Brian
