Power Steering Whine
Just to give you guys a heads up with the J series motor's, the power steering pump may start to whine in the cold weather were starting to have. I recently experienced this in my 2002 MDX and though oh crap the pumps going out. After some research i found some info that there is a intake pipe seal on the tube coming from the PS reservoir, its common for these to dry out and start to leak air past the seal in cold weather. Look in the reservoir and see if there is bubbles forming on the top, if there is air is getting by a seal somewhere. There is one 10mm bolt on the under side of it, its a pita to get at btw. The part number from Honda for the seal is # 91345-RDA-A01 (its an Orange seal) and is 1.50 retail... go figure lol. Remove the nasty black seal and slide the new one onto the pipe and reinstall... but not too tight, i think the manual says 8 ft. lbs.
Since the ps pump is above the reservoir i didnt lose too much fluid, just needed to top it off. I hope my experience with this saves someone else a little frustration. I really didnt want to shell out 150+ for a new pump with Christmas coming.
