Default 98 Civic Coupe Plans changes... DOHC Vtec

98 White Coupe *built to be driven*

I think this may be my last honda build for myself, as working on these cars for the last 6 years, running a shop, and growing up a little has lead me to other cars, but I never actually "finished" any of my other honda/acuras. So this is it, after a few years of collecting parts, learning what works and what doesn't, and the end all goal for this car is a comfortable, quick daily driver.

This is her, shes a 98 ex coupe at heart but nobody likes that body style, so after picking her up as a stolen recovery in august 2011, I replaced all exterior body panels with there 2000 corresponding replacements and just drove it.

It has been a very boring 3 months, with a best at the track of a 17.8, but its been good transportation.

So I bought a 01 Integra ls out of auction, sold some parts off it, scrapped the body and only ended up being a few hundred into the swap. I had mostly worked on eg/dc chasis's before so I did alot research on here to dig up what I needed todo the swap. The biggest parts to get were:

D16Y8 to > B18B1

99-00 Si: 50827-S04-N10 (T bracket)
99-03 CRV: 38930-P7J-000 (a/c vibration mount) B Block D Pump
99-00 Si: 11910-P30-000 (Drivers side block mount)

I decided to use the Integra Subframe instead tho because of the ease to change the rack, the tighter steering ratio and using the Integra T bracket.

So that leaves me with the y8 problem, months of trying to sell it with little to no interest, figure Ive gotta sell it cheap... no thanks... or find another shell.

11/27/00 I bought this 98 ex coupe off craigslist, clean title, off some guys that were parting it out for some reason. Missing a few crappy parts but whatever it was the right price.

The plan is too pull of mainly all the parts im not using off the white coupe, to make this a daily driver while I finish the white coupe, so there isnt a rush to get it done in a couple days and over look things.

Front end lined up like crap, so I ripped off all the aftermarket crappy fitting front end, had one of our employee's drill out a oem core support (sorry dillion lol) mocked it all up, fitted, screwed it all down, grind and final welded, shot it with some paint and waiting to fit the front end until the y8 goes in. I think what sucks about this coupe is someone some point in its life, cut out the power steering, cruise control and the a/c, but my plan is to turn this car mainly back to stock.

Had no front seats, tan integra cloth fronts is always classey... had them laying around with no other seats to put in it now.

My other other 98 ex coupe.... still waiting for a few parts, so I jacked its 2000 front end for my newest coupe..

Updates as they come.

Integra subframe installed

y8 going into black coupe.

Dillion doing inappropriate things to the cherry picker.

Bolted up for the most, fuel lines, wiring, bleed the brakes and install the exhaust and I can take it for the test drive then put on all the body panels and Ive got another driver.

Been busy with work, picked up a 4x4 hardbody, eg hatch and a del sol so have been working on those.

I had all my rear drum pulled off, during which learning the upper control arm body bolts were stripped, so waiting to get some studs in, re tap them, then install skunk2 adjustable uppers along with the rear disc. Also got adjustable end links and a integra sway bar but waiting for the brakes to be done.

Daily driver, whitey is coming along...

Some more projects to distract me...

Hatchi is blown motor, simple fix, driver after I sell the black coupe if the white coupe is not done, and really the sol was a impulse buy I have always wanted one, just waiting for a z6 swap to throw in.

So for anyone that was following, my rear upper control arm bolt holes stripped out, well mainly from a previous owner not realizing they were cross threaded.

Skunk2 adjustables and blox adjustable sway bar end links, I will be adding a gsr rear swap bar.

Re-tapped and converted to studs.

Engine harness.... I originally just wanted to plug it in, but of course alot of plugs ended up being short and or the wrong plug, so tucking the engine harness.

New console to mount stereo in, packed the motor mounts, rear disc finally finished, ac conversion mount, just waiting for the new timing belt tension spring to come in.

Adapting the integra lines to the civic lines.

New honda, timing belt, tensioner, spring and water pump.

Getting ready to drop in.

Motor is in, just 2 mounts, wiring and fuel, but it started. ran for a few without codes, then threw something, I think its the iac wire I didnt switch at the ecu, so we'll see.

Hopefully within a few more days I can be driving my white coupe again, this black one sucks.

Painted a 96 front, stock suspension... ready to be sold...

Pulling swap back out to do final wiring.

Sense the ek cruise control pulls vacuum, The integra one doesn't, anyone know if its plug n play?

The game changer... I was "happy" with the ls, they are good motors but it just doesnt crack...

Bought this 01 GSR for a beyond reasonable price, 79k... runs great, just everything was all rice'd up... beyond all the red in the engine bay damm near ever panel in the interior is painted, but I bought it for 1 purpose. I should have no problem selling the LS swap for more then im into the whole 01 .

I ended up putting the gsr in my hatch for now, see how it runs out and everything.

Back to the coupe.

Dark Grey Dash - 2000 Climate Control Conversion, Just as a heads up try and buy a 99/00 Dash or your gonna be spending a lot of time taking all the vents apart and some of the dash has to be trimmed as well before the new climate control can slide in.

New too me OEM Headlights, had 1 oem and 1 tyc before.

My 98 turned 00, I got this of a friend which this just was a little bit too much of a project for him.

The pictures pretty much speak for themselves, I have almost finished this car to drive as my black 96 coupe is for sale.

The only 2 problems I haven't been able to figure out, is neither window works nor the power locks.

Question: Why did you remove the T-bracket bolts from the subframe? You can just remove the two 19mm T-bracket to trans bolts from underneath the car and the one 17mm T-bracket to engine block bolt from underneath the throttle body area. That's 100,000,000,000X easier than removing the whole rubber mount and T-bracket.

Thanks, owning / running a body shop sucks... Never any time to work on my own car, if I can find time I'm usually burnt out from working on other peoples cars.

The towers measured into spec, so thats the real only reason I fix it, Drives perfect, most people cant tell it was wrecked by driving or by looking at the repair area.

The T bracket wasn't installed.... I only used the side 2 mounts to test the engine harness wiring...

You can see however that I filled the mount so that would justify removing it from the car lol, not to mention its extra piece of mind, that all your engine related bolts are tightened by yourself with thread locker.

Good build!! but i got a question. I have a eg hatch, and i'm getting a b18b also, but with the axles, do you have to get teggy spindals and rotors, or will the axles just fit into the eg's spindals??

So its in, It drives.... It runs like ****... Starts up fine, Idles fine, free rev's fine... under load tho, its stumbles over its self really bad till about 2k rpm then everything is fine and pulls hard... Kinda at a loss right now, sense no codes and nothing is really screaming at me at what could even be wrong but got some things to investigate so only time will tell.
