I have a 2001 Honda Accord LX with the 4 cylinder VTEC engine. I recently had the timing belt changed without issue. Shortly after that the check engine light came on, when I went to read the code my reader indicated the fault was in the extended range. I disconnected the reader and thought I would go to the dealer and have the code read. However the car would not start, it has not run since. I checked for spark and there is none. I changed the distributor and there is still no spark. The engine will crank but it will not start. I had my friend who owns an exotic car garage check the compression which is within spec. He also used his code reader but there is no history in the ODBII, maybe due to disconnecting the battery while changing the distributor and coil. My next guess is the crank shaft position sensor. But I would like some simpler things to check out first.

 

Here are some tests that I used. I have a similar issue where I stalled my 00 Accord last year while moving it in the drive way and it wont start now. No spark. Used these tests and now Im looking to find how to test the crank sensor and other no spark related sensors.

those cars have immobilizers in them they tend to act up! sometimes u may even have to reset ecu and get key reprogrammed to ecu

 

or check main grounds but my guess is it got something to do with your immobilizer

 

Make sure all your grounds are connected. When you turn your key on does the check engine light look dimmer than the other lights?

 

I am currently having this problem, and my CEL is dimmer than the rest. What does this mean?
