Default Frontend Knocking with no visual problems

OK 2005 civic. I am a newb to civic's as far as working on them beyond breaks, oil etc. I have read some posts on here, watched a few DYI vids on cv joints etc but still at a loss. Drivers side knocks at 5-25mph. Beyond 40mph is still knocks but its so fast its hard to notice. However, when i slow down to the lower speeds it sounds like a rubber belt is tied to the tire and hitting the wheel well every rotation. It does go away for a few minutes now and then. Once i thought it was happening when i would break, then other times it happens when i coast. I looked at the ball joints, the boots of the CV is all in place. This just started this week and has gotten worse. Any ideas on pin pointing the issue to save on cash???

How loud is the noise?

Can you feel any shock or vibration at the same time that you hear the noise?

Nothing in the tire?

Brake assembly is okay?

Hub, knuckle, bearing, etc are all okay?

Any play in the axle? What condition are the boots in?

Etc. etc., and so on.

Should be pretty easy to rule out what isn't the problem and/or just finding it.

Have you tried placing the vehicle in the air (jack stands or lift) and looking for the problem that way? Vehicle in the air, running, in gear, while one person works the accelerator and the other finds the source of the noise.

How loud is the noise? When around 10-15 mph its loud enough for passenger to hear easy.

Can you feel any shock or vibration at the same time that you hear the noise? Yes when its hitting you feel the bump. Again at lower speeds its like a hammer, but when i go faster it seems to be less impact as the speed increases

Nothing in the tire? Tire is good

Brake assembly is okay? Looks fine. Doesnt "feel" like it could be that. It "feels" like a joint or bearing. I just not sure which.

Hub, knuckle, bearing, etc are all okay? Everything looks ok.

Any play in the axle? What condition are the boots in? seems to have some play, but just as much as the other side of the car.. Boots look great. That is one of the problems, can't visually see a problem..

Etc. etc., and so on. At this point i would think it is the lower cv. Only because the rotation noise relationship. I am concerned because it looks like the older civics you could just pull the radius bracket off and slide the axle out. With this 05 it doenst look so easy. I did run in air but not making the noise. Not sure if its the lack of pressure or what. Arrggg

Have you inspected your compliance bushings? (Located on the front of your lower control arms, near the front bumper.)
