i have a 1989 honda crx si with a b18a1... just yesterday something odd started to happen, i looked all over the web and cant find anything that resembles my problem. when im driving my car is fine at 2k rpm and lower, but when i reach around 3k and up my rpm gauge fluctuates and i can feel a power loss and hear it through the exhaust. almost as if the motor was missing... i thought maybe a bad plug or wire so today i replaced with brand new.....to no avail. it still does the same thing and its got me worried. im thinking maybe a bad distributor or something of that nature. if anyone else has had this problem or knows what the issue is please help i will be very grateful.

 

most likely its the distro but check ur jumper harness for any loose wires

 

Is your check engine light on?

 

Is there any color of smoke coming out the back? If white it could be your head gasket needs changing.

Are you going through coolant fast?

 

check engine light will come on appoximitly 5 mins of drive time normally.... no smoke no coolant loss.

 

not even any unexplainable oil loss...

 

then find out what codes you have, and begin the repair process. come on, i get tired of hearing/reading people post up:

i have a problem with my car, i dont know what it is. the check engine light is on, what do it do?

check the freaking light. jump the 2 wire plug, count the number of flashes. open up the repair manual once you have the code (or google it). and fix it.

 

i accept your oppinion, and your view point on the matter. but when i couldnt find any information on the symptoms and possible causes anywhere, i turn to the community for their past experiences that i have not yet had.

 

And listen to what he said check your codes first..my car did this before and what happend was the dizzy rotor screw fell out so the rotor would still spin but cause it to do that
