no pressure on clutch
OK so i have a 91 honda civic si with a sohc zc vtec and a dx cable tranny. heres the problem the other day i went out to start my car and when i pushed the clutch in i heard a pop sound like some thing broke. so i figured it was the clutch cable that broke. i took it off and inspected it and it is not broken. So i did some research and found that it might be the throwout bearing return spring broke. I just got done dropping the tranny and the spring is not broken. I am going to replace it just to be sure that it doesnt happen in the future. What else could it be? also the weld that typically brakes on the clutch pedal is broken but it has been that way for a while and hasnt givin me any problems. i am going to take the pedal assembly out and get it welded but i dont think this is the problem because i heard something break and that has been messed up. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advance for any input. i am going to keep searching the internet but i want to see if someone can help me figure it out on here. I can post pics and give any info thats needed
OK some more info. I use the clutch and pressure plate that came with the sohc zc swap that originally had a hydraulic transmission on it. Ive been reading that the hydraulic pressure plate and clutch wont work correctly with a cable tranny. but it has been working for about 8 months now but with issues. I also noticed that the springs on the clutch disk are very loose. arent these supposed to be tight on there and have no play in them? I have had to replace the tranny twice now but i figure that was from just gettin on it a lot. The first time i replaced the tranny it was because the car would not go into gear and i was just slamming them in. i found out that it was because i needed to adjust the clutch cable. after i swapped trannys it seemed like i was having to tighten it all the time. the second one was because i broke a fork. i resently replaced the clutch cable with a used one because the other one i think stretched and felt really ruff sliding thru.
So Ive decided that before i put everything back together im going to get a new proper clutch kit, new clutch cable, throw out bearing return spring, and get the pedal assembly fixed. Im sick of having to drop the tranny because of some stupid problem. But still any input would be great!
wow 74 veiws and im still talkin to myself. Nobody has any ideas?
im lookin into getting one of the f1 racing stage 3 clutch kit. theres a lot of mixed opinions on these but none with real evidence. this is a pretty much stock motor and i dont plan on boosting or anything so i think this should hold up good. What do you guys think?

it seems in the past 4-5 hours you have been having quite a conversation with yourself. not sure about how it is where you are, but i know a lot of people here are just not on the internet today since its all about the holiday weekend and shopping and stuff. dont post on a web forum looking for immediate answers, be ready to wait a while sometimes.

so i got the pedal assembly out and this is what it looked like. it is broken more than i originally thought so this possibly could have been the noise i heard.
so i got the pedals back in and got another clutch cable that is about an inch and half or two inches shorter. I guess the other one got streched. I ordered another clutch release spring too that will be here saturday. ill be putting the tranny back in then so hopefully this fixes it!!!
****kkkk! This is so irritating. So I'm driving down the road and all of the sudden the clutch just gives out. So I figure the cable snapped because I didnt end up using the other one I got because I could not get it on the clutch arm. It was too short. So I push the car to a near by parking lot and take a look. The cable was not broken and but there was a lot of slack in it. I was able to tighten it all the way down to the last bit of threads and now the clutch will work.
When I had got the car all put back together with the pedals fixed and the new cultch release spring in I noticed there was no play in the clutch arm. After this just happened there is play in the clutch arm.
What is the problem?? I don't understand how it could just all of the sudden be like that. Is there supposed to bE play in the arm? Maybe now I'll be able to get the other clutch cable on.

Hey I know this is super old from 2014, But I have a 1989 honda civic Lx Sedan 5 spd that I blew the motor on a year and half ago I swapped in a d15b7 from a del sol, I bought all new flywheel, clutch kit, I believe new throwout bearing. This was about 6 months ago, the car ran good when i drove out the yard i made it from 1 then to 2nd gear and then pop, i couldnt get into any gear luckily i was able to roll around and back into the yard. long story short I messed that motor up do timing belt, But here I am today with a different fresh d15b7 with all the new parts swapped over and the clutch arm is loose from top to bottom like it isnt even touching the pressure plate has lot of freeplay. I am going to check the throwout bearing spring and bolt next time, any help would be much appreciated sounds very similar issue as gettin_there
