Replacing Headgasket on D16Y7, Do the headbolts need to be replaced?

Are they the stretch kind or not?

for piece of mind why not just replace them? even if they are stretch bolts they can only be used a certain number of times.

Cause they're expensive and I'm just trying to sell the car. If I don't have to I don't want to.

You do risk of then snapping when re torquing them down.

You can reuse them if you want. Many have with no ill affects, however it is possible for the studs to stretch...



I would reccomend replacing them, they aren't that expensive. Think about, do it now, or have something go wrong in the future and bite you in you in the ***.

many claim they re-use, re-use, re-use.....

then I have read that OEM have 2 or 3 torque downs....

Personally, I changed them. OEM run like $10 a bolt, however, its still ALOT cheaper then trying to tap out one that breaks while your changing it.

Get ARP its safe new and the gasket will last 10x times longer...

I did a head gasket replacement on a 95 ex d16z6, didn't replace the head bolts , drove the car from mid florida to GA, 5 miles from place ,,, Blown gasket.

you can reuse according to the service manual. if the motor is stock, i would reuse them.
