Default My car is burning oil......

I have a 98 with 90k on it. I was driving the car the other night and sometimes vtec didnt feel as strong as usual and a couple times it didnt even engage. I checked my oil the next day and the dipstick came out completely dry. I added about 3/4 a quart to it, drove it around, and checked it again and it was in the middle of the two circles. I usually change my oil at 3k. So far, its at about 2700 miles. Does anyone elses car have this problem? How often should I change my oil. I dont use synthetic by the way. I heard that R's burn oil but is that a common problem? Im also thinking of chaning my spark plugs. Are there any advantages of getting copper of platinum besides platinum lasting longer? Does one make a little more power over the other? Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

mm.. Change your oil every 3k. How hard do you drive the car? If you are in high rpms (VTEC) often your car will consume more oil. Check your oil regularly. I would just use the OEM plugs. Might be time for an engine rebuild soon..

With that many miles on the motor, u should have some burning of oil while in Vtec....most people with new'r motor should burn oil. It just depends on each persons comfort level......in regards to burning oil and how much is cool with them. Would not hurt to go through engine, but u can just keep adding oil.

Andy: Who would just add oil as needed

somebody should make a device that adds oil from a reserve container automatically. He would be a millionaire!

Suprisingly, no he said he is using regular oil. I would keep and eye on it. If consumption gets really bad then it might be time to open her up. Check, valve seals, etc..

Just a thought but if its feeling weak, it might be the piston rings. But it could just be you burned 3/4 of a quart after 2700miles. i use to run Mobil 1 on a b16a2 turbo and that oil didn't last too long compared to other oil I used. But its still good none the less.

YOu may have done damage to the engine already if there was no oil on the stick when you checked it (who knows you could have been driving like this for weeks).

Get everything checked pronto and keep the oil at the top indicator.

What weight of oil are you using and what do you have for an air intake?

Thanks,
John

my R has 80K miles now, just switched to 5w30 from 15w mobil. daily driver, don't always vtec, mostly highway, burnt 2 bottles in 4k miles. thinking of switching back to regular or castrol 5w50 synthetic, why no one uses castrol synthetic on their R?
