Default Buy a CRX for $1k?

A co-worker of mine has a '91 CRX for sale. It has a gsr motor and trans. He claims it has an ITR final gear, and other miscellaneous mods also. The problem is, the motor is blown and the car has sat for 4 years. He is only asking a grand for it. I haven't seen it yet but he said the body is in decent shape (about 150k miles) with minor Honda rust. If it's not too beat up, does this sound like a decent deal?

depends on how much rust. look inside the rear wheel wells for rust, and along the bottom rocker panels under the plastic covers. If there is alot of rust in those areas, not to mention the quarter panels, then the shell is not worth much. if it has alot of GSR parts that are in good shape, then that stuff alone can be worth what hes asking, as long as they are good parts.

no one will know if its a decent deal except for you. you have not yet seen the car so the best thing to do is a really good looking over.
in addition to the body rust and blow engine you may also need a new fuel pump and fuel tank since sitting that long can mean major rust problems. same with possibly needed some new brakes.

i just picked up an 89 crx si with 246k miles on original engine that sat for 3-4 years. i paid $250, but had to do a new fuel pump, new tank, new fuel filter, new front rotors and pads, one new rear brake cylinder, new alternator, new muffler and new o2 sensor. all that ran me over $1000....you could easily be looking at that much or more before it runs again.
