I am using a GSR harness in an EK, anyboby else done this yet?
I am currently combining the engine wireing harness from a 97 GSR and a 97 Civic because as i was getting ready to put the Gsr swap in the Civ, I decided i didnt want to use the old shitty DX harness an have to add the Vtec knock, etc...
So i went to a guy here and got a EX harness, problem solved right? well wrong turns out the ex harness has a few missing clips and several other clips are broke.....
Well my plan for this car is for the swap to be STUPID clean, and look like it came that way from Honda even to a trained or semi trained eye, lol...
I have the whole Gsr car as i bought it wreck specifically for the swap, all original DC2 unmolested (besides a fair amout of drivers rear body damage) So i start thinking, why dont i just use the harness from the GSR, its in PERFECT condition, and couldnt possibly be all THAT diffrent....
Well I was wrong! it is VERY diffrent in many many ways, i sort of go back and forth with myself trying to convince/talk out of going for it....
I am now about 40% there after just one day of hacking the harness outta the GSR and getting all my diagrams straight, depinning and repinning the engine-to-under dash section, and getting a very solid outlook on the path to finishing it tomarrow... I am around 80-90% sure at this point it will work just fine AND i will have the benifits of an OEM engine harness, and the ability to disconect in the engine bay instead of pulling through the firewall....
I will get some pics and more info up in the next couple days as I have not found a single other person who has ever even attempted this...
I would NOT recommend this to anyone unless you have a WHOLE parts car and you are VERY confedent with wiring and reading wiring diagrams!
P.s. i am new here to Honda Tech, hate on me if u want, i already know there are much easyer ways of going about this but whats the fun in being the same as everyone else?

There's just absolutely no good reason to do what you're doing. To wire vtec on a Y7 harness is 3 wires and then 1 more for knock. I'm not saying it can't be done but it's just a lot of extra work with absolutely no benefit.
if you need a harness i can build you a brand new one. ive made tucked EK OBD1 H22 swap harnesses before. feel free to check out my sig below for pics and video of my work.
here is a youtube video of the h22 ek tuck harness, the customer of this harness wanted RDX injectors and obd2 injectors and distributor. enjoy

also you will have to do a lot of rewiring to get the GSR harness to work on an EK, seeing as the routing of the both GSR and EK are very different.
One of the benefits of the EK harness was that it goes straight to the ECU. You can build the whole harness out of the car on the workbench instead of being jammed up under the dash trying to run the vtec wires through the firewall.

Also I am not a fan of the tucked bay look, but still want it to look nice and clean so the best way to do that is use the harness that is made to do just that...
Also like i said in the OP, "I know there are much easyer ways to go about this." It all comes down to my "ocd" Not to mention i like the challenge of doing something, that as far as i know has never been done..
Any Idiot can read a "how to swap" guide and do it just like every other Xerox Civic out there...

Oh and I am NOT working under the dash that would just be dumb, and I am building the harness still straight to the ecu... hard to explain, ill get pics up here this evening with markings to explain better
Also by using a GSR harness you will also need to re rout most of the wiring from the ecu to the driver side. On a GSR harness you have the following sensor wires on the driver side:
Evap
Vss
Alternator
Iacv
Rpm
Starter
Distributor power source
And many others that an EK routed on the main harness (passenger side) wiring

yeah i have figured that out, I am sure in the long run I will see all this was really overboard, but for now, its not costing me a dime and i am enjoying the challenge...
I am uploading pics now and will post shortly with the progress thus far...

The GSR lower harness chopped out of the car and plugged into the ECU, this is when i was figuring how to attach the green connector from the EK harness than plugs under the EK dash.

This is the GSR lower harness with the Green EK plug unpinned from the EK harness and repinned to the GSR lower harness...

GSR engine and lower harness with Green EK plug added... still some figuring to do but have a real strong vision of where its going...

The original DX harness, I am keeping this one whole just in case LOL...
That green plug is going to eliminate most of the driver side shock tower plugs from the GSR harness. That's why it doesn't make sense to add in all the extra wiring. I'm assuming of course that you will be running new wiring from the driver shock tower plugs (the ones that's weren't there before) to the green plug by the ecu
yup you nailed it thats the track im on, I am tracing down all necessary wires from drivers GSR section and rerouting as necessary... Have you attempted this or done this before? seems like you are right on "my page" with whats going on... Bless Mitchell on Demand for wiring schematics LOL
I make swap harnesses from scratch. So I know which wires go where. I have made a harness from 88-00 civic/crx and 90-01 integra. From stock replacements to swap harnesses.
