I have a 97 del sol SOHC. The other day it was running fine and 3 minutes from my house while climbing a hill at interstate speeds, the engine began to misfire and the CEL began flashing. I made it back to my house with limited power and continual misfiring. At idle, it sounds like a baby muscle car. The initial CEL code was misfire in cylinders 1,2, and 4. After troubleshooting and removing the ground from battery; CEL code of only misfire in cylinder 2.

I checked fuel pressure between the fuel filter and fuel rail. Fuel pressure tested ok.

Running: 44psi
After off: 42psi
After 30 min bleed off: 38 psi

During this process I also removed ground from battery and decided to re-check CEL. CEL this time was misfire in all four cylinders. I proceeded to check spark plugs and wires. All checked out ok. I have good spark on all 4.

I visually inspected inside of distributor and everything also looked in good condition here.

Again removed ground from battery, ran the car, and re-checked CEL this time misfire in cylinder 1 and 2.

I did a cylinder drop test and dropping spark to cylinders 1 and two seem to have no affect on the engine.

The misfire codes are the only ones I am getting.

I plan to test the ICM next, but would love to hear some suggestions!

ok anyone correct me if im off base here i dont claim to know everything but the ignitor in the distributor maybe??

 

How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor?

You also should test both the coil and ICM.
