Default Question about Drag tires and street tires

My build is almost complete and before taking the car to T1 on the 30th I have to get new tires. The size is stock SI rims at 195/55/15. Thus far I am fixed on the Yokohama S-Drive tires. I have read dozens and dozens of reviews and looked for bad reviews along with the good to weigh them out and they seem to be damn good tires for the price and for the type of driving that I intend on doing which is weekend and occasional drag. Which brings me to next question, what is a good setup for drag rims and wheels without spending a fortune? Any thoughts on picking up some that have been used? I'm not usually a big fan of used but with every now and then track use spending a ton doesn't make a lot of since. Any useful input and thoughts would be appreciated. (Car setup is in sig)

if you're only doing weekend driving, why not start off with a stickier tire? dunlop star spec/re11/etc.

for drag you can always run a steel wheel from diamond racing or something like that if you're looking for cheap. it will be heavy though.

See I thought about a stickier tire rather than dishing out tons of money on two different sets. I need to check the dunlop reviews. Thanks

Why burn up a good expensive street tire like the Star Spec at the drag strip ?
Any tire like that can drag, but it wasn't designed for that & will not be as fast as a drag radial.

Bite the bullet & do it right, buy a dedicated set of lightweight front wheels & street drag radials. You could buy the Tire Rack TRM C1 15X7 12.8 LBS for $89 each, and then mount up something like the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial II in a P225/50R15.

This way when you get to the track, you just pull them out of the back & mount them up. If you experience any type of tire/wheel failure, you're not forced to limp home on a spare.

Good luck.

Just picked up the Dunlop tires! Man these are sticky.

As for the rims I will take a look those from Tirerack. Thats not a bad price at all. Thanks
