Default FS: 96 Civic Coupe, Black, NW Chicago - 3200$

For Sale General:
Car: 1996 Honda Civic DX, AT 1.6L, Black
Mileage: 189,000 miles.
Title: Good/In-hand
Price: $3200

General Info:
- This car has been great to me and I hate to see it go. I simply need a bigger 4-door car for work purposes. I purchased this car in late summer. And have done quite a bit to fix it up as it was in need of some tlc. The car drives great, gets 31-31mpg and has no modifications or signs of abuse. The car has its original motor and transmission. I am the 4th owner and I have all the paperwork since day 1 on the car. Extensive maintenance records assure you that this car has no surprises. That being said, it is an older high mileage car, so I wouldn’t expect this car to impress anyone in the looks/amenities department. This car would serve great for a first-time driver, winter beater, or everyday commuter.

- My asking price is $3200, as I have put a substantial amount into this car, and even at this price I am not coming out on top. Hondas are known for their reliability and this car is no exception.

Motor/Drivetrain:
- The original motor is a D16Y7, 1.6l sohc 4 cylinder. The car has no external oil+coolant leaks and runs quietly/smoothly. The car is no rocket, but the power delivery is smooth and sufficient. It is surprisingly peppy for its age and power output. I can run a compression test if you’d like, I imagine the readings will come out fine. The car does not leak, use, or burn oil, and gas mileage is consistently in the low 30 mpg range.
- The only issue with this car is the transmission, at times, has a rough shift from 2 to 3rd, or 3rd down to 2nd. It does not disrupt the driving experience, nor is it progressing into a worse issue, it can just be a bit jerky at times. Some days it does not do it all. It is most likely the transmission computer that needs a reset.
- The following parts are new/have been added by ME within the past 300 -500 miles: Upper+lower radiator hose and clamps, thermostat and gasket, throttle body gasket and Idle control valve cleaning, new intake air temp sensor, new air filter, new spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, and a full coolant flush for winter. Idle and gas mileage have improved substantially since I picked the car up. I also replaced the mid pipe exhaust gasket.

Chassis/suspension:
- The car recently has recently been fitted with a complete front end refresh. The struts, strut mounts, upper+lower control arms and ball joints, tie-rods, bushings have been replaced using high quality poly-urethane components. The steering and suspension is firm and responsive. The brakes do not throb, squeak or grind, but are a bit soft compared to other cars. The front and rear wheel bearings have also been replaced. This car has minimal drivetrain noise and rides smoothly. Tires are in good shape and have AT THE LEAST another year of solid usage on them. No uneven wear, dryness, or balancing issues.

Interior:
- The car has grey+black fabric interior. This is the DX model, so there is no cruise control, sunroof or cd player. I use a cassette tape adapter for an ipod. All 4 speakers work and the radio functions fine. Heat, defrosters, blower motor, interior lights, gauges and all seat functions work properly. There is one small tear in the passenger side seat, and the headliner sags a bit and has a few small holes in it. I recently removed the headliner and washed it and reapplied some adhesive towards the front windshield, to prevent some drooping the car had when I bought it. The carpets, seats, and interior panels have all been removed and shampoo’d by me, about 150 miles ago. Car is freshly cleaned and comfortable on the inside. Smoke free car.

Exterior:
- This car is not a looker, but it isn’t a junkyard find either. The ds fender is dented, and it has the typical Honda rust at the rear quarter panels above the rear wheels. The hood has some hail damage (series of small indents in certain forms of light) and the bumpers have some scuffs on them. There is a small crack in the windshield on the passenger side, under the wiper. Car has new wiper blades, full functioning headlights+taillights, and the lenses on each were recently restored/polished for optimum visibility. I recently detailed the outside hoping to revive the paint and the car still can maintain a good shine for what it’s worth, but the average person wouldn’t see a point in trying to keep it up. No hanging body panels, no mismatched colors, and no holes. Car is acceptable in appearance, but no show-stopper.

If there is anything you would like more details on let me know. My goal is to disclose each known issue so there are no surprises on the buyers end. I have checked this car up and down and replaced what I think is necessary to make this a safe reliable daily, and this car has done its job for me and will for you too! I can email or text add'l pictures upon request.

Summary:
- Good: MPG, original motor in good running condition, new bushings, wheel bearings and engine parts. Detailed interior and great tires. Good brakes, good steering(power), and interior functions. Heat blows hot and car warms up very fast on a cold morning. Battery holds 12.7 V and has never given me an issue when cranking. Does not overheat, does not misfire, buck, backfire.
- Bad: exterior imperfections, dents and scuffs. Aged paint. No a/c, needs new Freon recharge. Brakes could use a bleed, crack in windshield and the occasional erratic shift into 3rd gear, or down into 2nd. ( a new trans for this car is around 150-200$, IF it were to fail, which i dont think it will)

Contact:
(primary) Email me at devinbarnas@yahoo.com or Call/text 847-767-1970. I am available on weeknights and all day sat-sun to come see the car. Located in the NW suburbs. No joy rides. I will entertain reasonable offers but don’t bother with low ***** or ridiculous offers. I am NOT in a rush to sell the car, it is simply time for me to get a 4 door for work. Not interested in any trades.
