I called the honda dealer to find out about a carb gasket for my car. He says it's no longer available. What should I do? Buy gasket material and cut my own? Is there a gasket maker that would work? Right Stuff? Open to some suggestions here. Thanks

 

either cut your own or you can try honda-bond. pick it up at any honda motorcycle dealer. if it works for my oil pan, then it should work for your carb.

 

Yup make you own or try an aftermarket part.

Well that definitely sucks.... Make your own gasket on both sides of the worn out rubber isolator? I was hoping to stay with the stock carb. Looks like they aren't giving us that option.

 

I haven't taken my carb off yet, what is the "rubber isolator" you mention? I have heard there is a "carb spacer", but from looking, it doesn't look like there is anything there. It looks to be mounted flush to me.

If you're looking to keep your stock carb, you can have it rebuilt Or there are a few places on the net where you can send them your carb, and they will send you a rebuilt one. I've done it before on a 2nd gen civic I had. Cost $200 from what I remember. Plus shipping of course.

I know the carb spacer is still in stock, $90 at the Honda dealer across the street.

 

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have this.

 

For the carb gasket, you could use a cereal box (old school carb trick).

 

It is more an insulator than a gasket. Some guys make their own insulator with wood and epoxy, or cut it from some exotic materials.

A quick search yield this, you navigate thru their search, then ask for catalog as the list does not give you a civic part, not cheap.... $107.... but a least you know what it looks like....

or phenolic material to support the hardware

and you still need the box of cereals to do the seals on top and bottom, or you can get the material in different from the good auto parts store such as Napa or..... whatever is nearest you.

Well I'm 80% positive I don't have the spacer on my car. From looking it just isn't there. Unless it's down in the intake mani, so the carb rests flush?? They sell gasket material by the roll for $3 at orielleys. I think I'd rather go that route than a cerial box lol. Thanks for the idea though

 

Well I was wrong. Mine does have the spacer . And Thanks for all the posts, I was just going through the thread, and saw some I missed before lol. I'm gona track one down now.
I bet the spacer is where I have my vac leak. This summer I was installing a stereo and blew a fuse. By accident I used my radiator fan fuse thinking it was a spare. This caused my car to overheat, on what was probably the hottest day we had this summer. I think it probably warped the spacer or broke the seal somewhere. Guess I'm lucky nothing else was damaged. Anyways, good times lol

 

Well I tried the local Honda dealer for the carb insulator, and guess what...discontinued . They can get one for the 1500, but NOT the 1300. Since they have separate part numbers I'm NOT going to take a chance on it working.

I called and after about 15 min of him searching he came up with what I need. $86 and if I spend 14 more I get free shipping. Oh, and he is actually located 40 miles away from where I live! lol

 

Spend $14 more to get free shipping, when you could drive there on less than $4....

lol, yeah no kidding. He said $7 for shipping, and I'm not sure if he has it there or is having it shipped to him. He left early today for the holiday, so I didn't even get it ordered or find out the details. I was more worried about that shipping. I found some things to get anyways. Main fuel filter, couple oil filters, and oil drain plug & gasket. That way I get some things I could use. Yeah, I'm still driving it. Does good for running 10X too lean! Still beats the 17mpg my truck gets lol

 

That is good news, Pelican parts is a good place, I have ordered a bunch of parts for the european vehicle that I help fixing.... They are OEM parts at a huge discount.

Remember to check the big vacuum hoses in the back of the intake manifold... change them, especially the one on the driver's side.... I was unable to test it as it is so remote even while spraying the base, but while changing my alternator I sprayed a little brake cleaner and got the answer to the $400 cat that did not fix anything, my Nox is 1500 ppm.

So I was on E-bay and they had two used carburetors that fit my car for $100 each (plus $20 shipping)! Well I figured that if I'm taking the carb off anyway, why not throw on a new (used) carburetor. Well the next day the better looking one had already sold . Figured I could still get the other one. Well yesterday was payday, so I kept looking at it while I was at work, and it was still there. I come home to order it and somebody already bought it!! But I think it's for the best anyways. I'm just going to send mine to National Carburetor http://www.nationalcarburetors.com/cat-honda.html. For $201.90 (including shipping), I get my carburetor rebuilt. I feel much better about getting a rebuild, rather than a used one I don't know anything about. Yeah, it was guaranteed to be in good working order, but I'd hate to get it on there and find out it's not. Then have to take it off and send it back. So anyone looking to get their carb rebuilt, national carb is the cheapest I've found. I actually can have it rebuilt at a shop 60 miles away for $200, but if i figure the gas it takes to go over there twice I might as well send it to this place. Just thought I'd share, and maybe help out someone struggling with finding a carburetor. I'll be back to insane fuel economy in no time! Can't wait.

 

Interesting.... I wonder how do they achieve "and then a live engine test."
