I bought an engine with it's ID#. Will like to know what car it came from or VIN in order to verify mileage. Is it possible to track VIN with engine ID?

 

Contact your local Honda dealership, to see if they've got it on record.

If the engine was ever worked on by a respectable dealership, it should be traceable.

 

Honda Canada Inc keeps Canadian market engine id numbers on file, sometimes there is more than one different engine with the same serial number, although from different engine families. They could tell from what vin# the engine came from. I imagine American Honda is the same way, although they may not be willing to assist Joe Public. Honda Canada Inc provided this information to their franchised dealers through the dealer supportTechline

 

If it's that hard to link the engine ID with the car or VIN#, how can you tell when a engine was stolen or the real mileage of the engine? Maybe the engine also has the VIN# but I haven't seen it. Where could it possibly be? the engine was install on a 94 civic and the engine Id is D16Z62511156 in case that this helps. thanks
