Is this worth buying? (noob lurkers first post)
... Or even going to look at? 97 base He claims to have done an h22 swap but I thought that the only engines with that blue valve covers were the H23a VTECs. Even that should be a darker blue right? I think those only came with auto trannys too, but in the ad it says five speed. He told me 80k on the engine and tranny, 127k on the body. Anything else stick out to you guys? I'm going tomorrow to look at it, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
probably just an h22 dropped in to replace the stock h22. seems kind of low mileage to replace the engine though, but the price seems ok. the valve cover is probably painted since the plastic pieces are painted as well.
You were correct sir, it was an h22, and it was painted. Still debating this one though though, I know I want a prelude but every single one I check out had two things: 1. It's been dropped in the cheapest, shitiest ways, then the tires rub against the wheel wells. 2. people ride 'em hard and put 'em up wet. Prelude owners on this site seem to be much different than the ones I meet irl. I'm going to have a mechanic look at this one and if he says yes I'll buy it. Thanks for the reply.
i wouldnt if i was you... it looks like too much of a lemon... youll end up paying way more money to get it running right and fixed then you would paying for a better prelude that runs GOOD! plus the body is dented, i.e. driver side fender.... plus the valve cover is PAINTED... notice the intake is NOT C.A.R.B. certified therefore being illegally modified... idk how the laws are where your from but that would not fly where im from... not to mention the car looks lowered so check the suspension work... it has SH rims so ask if its a true type-SH.... looking at it it does look like one considering the side skirt and rear lower strip is painted the same as the car.... check to see if there is courtesy lights on the passenger and driver doors.... if its a real SH there should not be a 3rd brake light inside the car... it would be on the OEM wing SH's came that this one does not have... when you turn the ignition there should be a yellow light on the dash that reads "ATTS"....
Swapping springs is a pain, but it can be done in a couple hours at home.
If the biggest complaint you have about a 10+ year old car is that the dumb owner dropped it on the ground, I'd say its a good buy.

to the OP have a mechanic check it out, drive it and then make an offer to cover what you see as the things that need to be repaired. We sold our 00 prelude 2 years back and ony got 5k on it and it was a little more stock but in MUCH better condition...
