no starting problem narrowed down to possible three things
b16a2 in my 91 hatch converted to OBD1
it started up the other night when i put my alternator back on, and now it doesnt even want to turn over
heres the run down of what all i have done within the past 5 days.
both starters and battery taken to parts store and tested.
starters passed and battery was at 59% but they fully charged it.
alternator tested and passed.
i repaired my main relay with fresh solder on the old joints
i fried 2 ecu grounds. i replaced those.
i replaced the underhood fusebox.
i have a push button start (new switch) and i have it grounded to the starter on one end, and i have a + wire that i attach to the + terminal on the battery and push the button.
all it wants to do is click.
and i cannot get the motor to turn over
so i have narrowed it down to the following
-----------------------------------------------------------
-ive checked for CEL codes, and the CEL stays on. ive heard it could be a faulty ECU, ECU not having enough power, or something like that
so my question is
1) even though there is nothing burnt up in the ecu, could it still be fried?
how can i confirm this and can anyone give me any insight on it?
2) is my motor locked up? it has oil and coolant. oil is to the top hole on the dipstick.
and i can also put a ratchet on one of my cam gears and turn the motor over. hear it building compression just fine.
should i pull the plugs and see if its flooded with fuel?
should i attempt a push start?

Judging from the 'click', I doubt it's anything mechanical. Even a faulty main relay will allow you to turn the engine over trying to crank it, it just won't actually crank.
You said you checked for codes, did it throw any? If your check engine light stays on, it should throw some sort of code.
What ecu are you using? Have you tried resetting the ecu? Have you tried using a a factory ignition to crank the car?

and im not getting any CEL codes. just stays on. no flashes.
i currently have a jdm pr3-j00 obd1 ecu. and i have not tried using the factory ignition. this cars been on the push button for 3 years and i have never had a problem with it.
As long as the engine isnt locked up (internal mechanical obstruction), Id check your transmission to frame to battery ground.
Also make sure the wire that bolts to the post on the alternator is not coming in contact with the sides. I've seen that fry the ELD before, and prevent the car from starting.

if you checked everything else i'd say its time to swap the ecu out and see if thats the problem. look at this how-to he had the same problem and its very descriptive. i know its for a 92 civic but its on the same guidelines
