Can I keep driving my car if the Electrical Load Detector (ELD) needs to be replaced?
Sorry if this information is already out here but I couldn't locate it. So yesterday my check engine light went on. The two codes I was given were P1298 and P1456. After some research it seems that the ELD could be the issue as this seems to be a common problem. I had tried charging my phone the night before when I was driving around (where the lighter normally goes) and noticed that it shorted my phone charger or something because it was no longer working. Then the next day the check engine light comes on. Not sure if the two are at all related. But my question is can I keep driving the car? I don't have time to replace the part this week and I have to drive to an important ceremony about two hours away. Can anyone help answer? The car hasn't been making any noise and is running fine, but I haven't driven it around for hours on end. Thanks!
Not good for it but, yes, you can drive on it. Once you wait the required 3 minutes for the airbag capacitor to dissipate it only takes like 60 seconds to change the ELD.
When getting the ELD ask for part# 38250-S5A-A03 ($35). Otherwise they'll look at ya like you're an idiot and try to sell ya the whole fuse/relay box ($235).

I replaced mine cause I was having tooo many electrical issues. I kept loosing all power. You should replace it, I had to pay $40 from the dealer because I got stuck far from home.
You can get it for about half price online.
