Default turbo lsv, fuel gage problem

just recently my fuel gage on the cluster in my turbo 95 civic started acting weird.
while driving with half tank the gage will climb up to full and just stays there while im crusing on hwy, if i go and park while the motor is idling the gage will not drop but if i open up the fuel cap and release the pressure from the fuel tank out then the gage seems to drop down to the correct amount. any ideas??

as far as fuel system goes im running
intank walbro 255 fuel pump
rc 750cc injectors
all stock fuel lines, rail and filter
vortec adjustable fuel pressure regulator
b&m fuel pressure gage

It is most likely the fuel level sending unit in the gas tank. I would replace that first, well I would test that first but you most likely dont have the tools to do that. So replace the sending unit.

you could maybe test it by pulling it out and looking at the voltage as you sweep the float. BUT that might be more trouble than it's worth, so replacing the sending unit is probably the route you want to go.

It should be in the tank. I'm guessing you'd have to drop it to get to it. You can see it if you have the pump out (I think it's on the left side). I've never looked into replacing one for these cars (I have a turbo 95 coupe).

Can I get to it with the pump out if it's located on the left side like you said?

I'm not sure because I don't know how it removes. You can always pull the pump and take a look. That's easy to do.
