Default Newb kinda but need some help with D-series hydro trans in my EF

I am new to posting on the forum but not new to the forum. I have used this site over and over again to to help me with problems over the years. I have owned 3 hondas now a 91 accord, a 91 ef hatch, and the latest is a 90 civic wagon. I know this is the EF section but I am sure someone can help. I am not new to cars my any means I have been a mechanic for almost 10 years now and have my hands in about everything. I am also huge into miatas but I am here for my honda.

Here is a link to my build thread of my 2jz miata. It is not done yet but soon it will be.

http://www.miataturbo.net/showthread.php?t=41570

Back on topic. I have a 1990 civic wagon with the following mods.

Engine - d16y8 with d17a1 rotating assembly just built 5000 miles ago.

trans - JDM DOHC ZC trans RIP...Now have 91 SI Trans

ECU - I am running a OBD0 PR3 with a B16A tune.
Vtec - 4500 Rev limiter - 7200

I did the vtec conversion and MPFI conversion my self and all is well. I know I should switch to obd1 but I just have not been able to do that yet. I will get to it.

I have purchased a 99 civic ex trans and would like to put it in my wagon. Then I will have a completely up to date setup in the car. I am having problems figuring out the mounts. This is my conclusion so far let me know what you think. The d16y8 comes in a 99 civic with uses the same mounts for the d series or b series just different brackets. I was thinking as long as I use a d16y8 rear bracket and a set of b series swap mounts all will fit. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I have searched high and low and I cannot find anything. I have the cable to hydro conversion set up just need mounts. I know that I need eg axles and I have those as well. Can anyone help me with this or am I a lost or confused on something.

Here are a few pics of my wagon and my miata. The wagon is the everyday beater just like it to run well the miata is the toy. Please I just got the wagon a few months ago so it is till pretty rough. If anyone know anything about the mounts please let me know.

Oh and I cannot forget this is my hatch right after I wrecked it.
guy pulled out in front of me when I was doing 70 mph and I hit him all is well though.

I had the same bottom end with a z6 head and different intake and fuel rail.

then the miata

in its current build state I am doing a lot of work to it right now.

and some links to the youtube vids.

For the last time I need to know if I run a d16Y8 with a 99 ex trans and do the cable to hydro conversion can I use b series mount. I know the 99 uses the same mounts for a b and d series with different brackets so in my mind if I use b series mounts all will work out fine.

You wouldn't use any B series anything on a d-series trans.
Hasport makes a kit specifically for this swap.

You will be losing the "equal" length drive shafts by replacing the ZC trans.
Personally, I would just stay with the cable system and that ZC trans, but refresh the ZC internals with custom gearing and an aftermarket LSD.
Hydro D isn't cheap and your money could be spent much better on that Miata IMO.

You beat me to it.

Even though I make hydro conversion specific to your needs I agree that keeping the ZC if possible is the way to go.

If you are concerned and are choosing the hydro trans just for the basic benefit of having a consistent clutch Hush Performance has you covered. We have hydro adapters to convert your cable D/ZC transmission to accept a slave cylinder

If swapping the the hydro trans it what you want to do I'm assuming since you currently have a ZC trans your hubs have been swapped for SI/EX/auto then eg axles will work.

the link posted above is your best option IMO for mounts.

Ok I am sorry I should have changed what I said but I forgot. I used to have a JDM ZC and now have a 91 si trans. The JDM ZC had a hole punched in it when I wrecked from a big rock, but I like to imagine I still have it because it was an awesome trans. So I am not keeping my trans becasue my si trans sucks ***. I have edited my above post and it states the correct trans. I am also a big fan of doing things right but with minimal cost. If I can build it I will before I buy it. I am going to figure out what mounts I need without buying the conversion kit and then I will make a write up on it so everyone can see it is not that bad to switch to hydro. Plus the hydro transmissions are much easier to find for a good price now and the cable transmissions are around but most are abused.

B swap mounts are almost 100% different, will not be a bolt in affair as are you thinking

y8 rear t bracket will not work.

7 years ago I found this out personally, these are the mounts I made after too many hours, You could save time and money just buying them from hasport.

They are cheap when you compare what you make an hour, to how many hours youll spend making your own

but to each their own

good luck sir!

Open your Si trans and your old ZC trans and build a hybrid trans. I did this twice and it was much better than the ZC or Si alone. ZC 5th is too short for freeway so it was a nice upgrade to drop in the Si 5th.

Ok so here is what I think I am going to do. I have a set of hydro b swap mounts so I will take those along with my stock mounts and some other mounts I have laying around and see what I can get to work. I do not mind modifying the the b swap mounts if need be to make them work. I just hate spending money I do not have to. I would also like to add if I get into this and it is a total PITA I will just suck it up and buy the kit, but not without trying myself first.

do the ZC/SI gear swaps. WAY better gearing than the Y8, and probably easier. I prefer the cable clutch aswell. A lot more "feel" in it than my integra's hydro set up.
