Default NASA cage spec questions...

I just noticed the new cage rules, and it looks like they've removed 1 5/8" tubing from the rules. Should I still be able to pass if my cage is already made from 1 5/8" .120wall ERW? I don't know why a larger tubing wouldn't pass, but I figured It's worth asking. Also would it be legal to add 1.5" .120 wall door bars to the cage? I have access to 1.5" bending equipment but no 1 5/8".

It's been a while HT, but we're still making progress on our Time Attack CRX. Hoping to get a lot done this winter.

I'm fairly sure that NASA stopped allowing ERW tubing in cages quite a few years back. ERW cages are allowed in grandfathered cars, but not for cars attempting to get new log books.

+1, somewhere in there requires all tubes be the same size.

Not new rules , haven't been around for a while? they don't allow ERW since 03 on cars over 1500 lbs.
Have to cut it out and start again. Sorry.

I just read the CCR and it doesn't say anything about all tubes need to be the same size. It just requires that the main cage be of the legal size.

I know this doesn't compare apples-to-apples, but it could apply. For a rally cage, they have required tube locations and size, but there is one set that is required to be 1-3/4" and another 1-1/2". Once you have those required tubes in place, you can put anything else you want to build off that legal base.

But agreed, ERM won't be legal since your car isn't logbooked already.
