HELP! 88 CRX HF, Tack on Crack, gauge or sensor or electrical issues???
Hi Gang
I have an origional 88 HF new to me , it's to be my son's 1st car! It has 272k and has not moved for a year when we got it. We bought It & after cap roter , new fuel , and filter etc it runs pretty well. HOWEVER the guy we bought it from said it needed a new clutch , It doesn't seem like it is slipping but the Tach jumps around like crazy! When it is in neutral is seems right on , when it is in gear it will zip to to 7k ish when barely on the gas, faster that when in neutral definitely not reading correctly.
ALSO
The temp gauge is on crack, most of the time when I turn the key on it goes right to the middle of the temp gauge , sometimes it doesn't work at all and sometimes it works normally.
I have tried quickly re-seating the temp sending unit, and both thermo sensors in order to see if that will fix it ,no luck i'm going to do that again today more completely.
I don't have endless $ to throw at this so my issue is
Can I do something to the gauges and or sensors etc to fix the problem with out having to randomly replace the cluster and or all sensors to fix the problem?
I know sometimes as a car has set for a while some of these ghost problems will pop up and sometimes work them selves out
Please your experience and insight is welcome!!!

Does it still run well when everything goes on a fritz?
If so, check ground wires.
The tach wire is one wire that goes from dizzy to ecu to gauge cluster. It could possibly have a break in it and is grounding somewhere else intermittently.
Any signs of mice or squirrels having been in there or the engine compartment? After a year of sitting they may have chewed some of the wiring.
