on rare occasions i have had to fit a 3rd person in my CRX, like if i was giving a friend a ride and did'nt know he had his girlfriend with him, and i hated having someone sit in the back cause made me nervous that they were damaging the interior panels back there since they are'nt designed for the weight of a person to be sitting on it.
i was wondering if anyone had any ideas how i can sort of strengthen the top lid of the security / storage compartment enough so a person could sit on it without it caving in or getting damaged ???
like could i mount a piece of wood to it ? or under it ?
if that piece was stronger than it would be ok if a 3rd person needed to fit back there, because i already made a replacement panel out of wood for the front cargo cover piece that has the two levers on the sides, so that is strong already enough for someone to sit and lean their back against.
any thoughts would be cool, thanks

buy a jdm rear seat with seat belts. If you dont and rig up something, would you rather tell them to find another ride or explain to their parents why they died in a car accident because you did something dumb like sit on the storage compartment?
Think about this a little and seriously, why did you post 3 different threads about the same thing

im assuming you thought i was saying quit ****ing talking? lol... i could imagine some dumb **** trying to tell people to quit ****ing talking after possibly killing whoever was in the back seat (area?)

i should'nt of even worded it like that, and not mentioned about the 1 or 2 rare times that a person sat back there, cause now i made it sound like i have people sit in the back all the time as a regular thing, cause i really don't.
so is there anyway everyone could just ignore the part of my question mentioning people sitting in the back, and just answer my main question? which is :
how can i strengthen the lid to the storage compartment, using wood or something like that? and just anyone with ideas how to do that?
cause the stock piece is just flimsy and weak for doing simple things like putting heavy stuff back there ontop of it, etc. . .
any ideas would be cool, thanks

Seems like a lot of work though. I'd just buy JDM/EDM rear seats if I were you.

You have a trunk for a reason... use it. Put your "precious" cargo in the trunk and close the hatch. Those storage areas are getting hard to come by while people are a dime a dozen.

You could make or reinforce the lid. Then the weight would be put on the lid hinge, lid latch and the entire plastic personal trunk itself. So all that could get broken.
You could put a board across the two small compartments. Then the weight would be put on those plastic compartments and they could break.
None of these parts are really load bearing. Making the lid flat and stronger might save the lid from buckling in, but it won't save the hinge and all the other parts that make up the personal trunk area.
I'm afraid your best bet for carrying items it to just remove the personal trunk and the best bet for carrying people is installing a rear seat.
I STRONGLY advise against having unbelted occupants in your car. Not only could they be injured, but so could the belted occupants in the car.
Sounds like it's time to save your pennies and get a rear seat or make your friends aware that you have a two-seater and their girlfriend is going to have to wait for another ride.
