will 4 cyl eng/auto tranny swap into 6 cyl body?
I have a newly totaled 2000 Accord 4dr LX with auto tranny and 4cyl engine that are working fine.
Is it possible to drop my engine/tranny into a '98-2002 Accord that was orignally equipped with a 6cyl engine and the notorius auto tranny that came with it?
I figure the mounts and the ecu/tcu will be required - don't know what else. There seems to be a decent supply of these cars for sale because the tranny is dead or dying and not worth fixing. Any help would be appreciated.

I do believe that Honda did standardize the 98-up chassis to fit both the I4 and V6. If memory serves me right the earlier 94-97 models had to have the chassis extended in the front due to the wider C series being a 90* V6 rather than the later and more compact J series 60* V6. I wouldn't be surprised if the subframes or, as Honda calls them 'beams', were different between the I4 and V6 models.
This will not be a simple engine swap. The F series rotates counterclockwise, and the V6 rotates clockwise. The engines are on opposite sides of the engine bay, this will require different hose routings, along with possible changes to the suspension radius rods, sway bars and springs. Axles will be different as well. It would probably be easier to drop the complete drivetrain assembly on the subframe and change over that way.
Keep in mind that the I4 AT is not a better transmission, the engine was just not as powerful. Both 98-02 ATs did not last as long as the '90-97 models. The only difference is an I4 AT might last 60Kmiles compared to a V6 AT at 30K miles. You will be trading one headache for another.

Thanks for the response. My challenge is that I have replaced a ton of parts that I hate to walk from. The car has 172k on it and was running like a champ. The engine compartment it intact as it was hit in the rear.
So, what you are saying is that I could just lower the entire engine/tranny/sub-frame from both cars and swap all the hoses suspensions parts required etc. as long as i can verify tha the two body cavities are identical. Seems like it is lot of hassel - may be better to wait to find an I4 that is cheap due to eng/tranny issues.
Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I normally play with civics so getting into an Accord swap is new territory for me.
Thanks again!
