So my brother was having problems with his heater, it wasnt turning on. After a couple of troubleshooting steps, we assumed something was wrong with the switch that turns it on (turns out it was a bad ground). We couldnt find any thing on the forums on how to remove the climate control without removing the dash so we decide to try and figure it out. Here is our step by step tutorial on how to remove it.

The climate control is held in by 3 screws, 2 plugs, and wire that adjusts the climate.


You will need a stumby screw driver (preferably with magnet tip so screws dont fall in dash), flat head, and tools to remove radio.

First remove the radio and the center dashboard (thats the easy part


Next remove the radio cage or whatever its called. Unbend all the tabs that bent to hold in the cage.


Should be a nice hole to fit a stumby screw driver in.


Next you will need to remove the speedometer dash or whatever its called




Remove hazard button there is a screw behind button


Unplug hazard button and clock


Remove the 2 **** switches to adjust climate control, just take flat head and pop them out.

Next you will need to remove the cable that adjusts the climate. There is a **** that you need to turn to release the cable. You may just be able to remove the cable without removing the latch but we did it anyways because we werent sure.


Turn **** to release




Like I said the climate control is held in by 3 screws, we only had to remove 2 someone before us had already removed the bottom one. We used a stubby screwdriver and a mirror to see where the screws are. The 2 front screws are located in the lower right and left hand corners of the climate control (screws are on an angle)







Dont just attempt to pull the climate control out, slowly pull it until you can see the 2 plugs. They are a pain in the a$$ to get out but it can be done. Use screwdriver or whatever you can to unlock the plugs.




The climate control should slide right out just be careful.




Note- You should pay attention to how everything is already installed so you can reinstall in the correct way.

Very nice. Whenever I pull them out I don't bother with the cluster trim piece. I remove the bottom lower console (four screws) then after removing the radio you can use a long phillips screw driver from the bottom to remove those pesky angles screws. This way you can also see the screws without using a mirror. Although you do have to slightly contortion yourself upside down to look from the bottom.

 

Thank you very much for this write up! Took me 3 days of searching to find something like this. Currently I'm stuck trying to get the two wire harnesses off. Think I'm gonna try removing the instrument cluster trim and see if that gives better access.
Only input I have is, it may be easier to remove the temp control cable from under the glove box. I removed it from under the climate controls as well but i'm not looking forward to getting it back on when the time comes.
