my Honda wouldn't let me take the key out of the ignition but if I wiggle it some it will eventually click into Park and let me take key out. some times im waiting in the car for about 5 mins. like the title says its worst when its cold, its starting to get cold again.

Are you not able to turn the key and lock the column? Or is it the shifter not fully engaging Park? If its the latter you may have to adjust the shifter cable or possibly replace it. The other possibility is the shifter interlock in the shifter is no longer working properly. In the interim you can try holding the shifter button, put the shifter do D1 and then swiftly shift back up into Park. Try not to crash it into Park as you risk damaging the shifter.

Sounds like the shifter interlock is going bad. I would open up the console and check for bad wiring, bad connections, or a failing limit switch.

Not to threadjack, but this happened to me once on a manual Accord. I had to jerk the key out of the ignition, and I drove it around "hacked" with the ignition switch hanging out from under the column for the rest of its life. Could it be related?

The key lock relies on the electrical sensor inside the console by the gear shift. If you take off the plastic cover, it's a black and white box with a bunch of wires coming out of it. Take it off, open it up, clean the conductors, WD-40 the black slider (the rod on the gear shift moves it) until the two metal strips that make the circuits spring quickly. I had the same problem, this fixed it.
