CRX 88-91 dash differences
Are all 88-91 CRX dashes interchangable? I know the gauge cluster cover is different, but is the main dash part the same? Are they all grey/black or is there grey/blue ones also? Thanks.
The dash will swap, but you need to swap the dash-harness from your old one. I put a 90-91 in my 89. I didn't do the cluster changeover cause that involves too much and makes the car questionable without the original cluster.
Yeah, that's what I was planning on. I've had my experiences with wiring harness, I say keep it original or get a headache. Is the Si the only one with grey/black interior? I've seen most of the HF with grey/blue and some DX models that were either blue or black (don't know if somebody swapped it out at sometime). Thanks for the responses.

Good idea, I looked at 88,90,91 Si's and they only show black, then the DX it's either palmy blue or black (guess it was an option within the model), and the HF blue. Guess I will look for Si's or some DX's with black interior. Thanks.
gray band across the top, then blue kind of vinyl feel...then the hard plastic is a slightly different shade, though i am not sure if that is just aging from the sun or not. my speaker panels are also slightly different color from the vinyl on the doors, again i am leaning towards the sun being the cause.
What makes the car questionable? The 91 cluster and bevel are much nicer than the 88-89, and worth the swap. Also if you are swapping the dash harness over already, cutting and soldering a few extra wires is nothing.
Because if you ever try to sell it as a classic car, the buyer will KNOW the cluster has been swapped. Then the entire history of the car becomes suspect. That's just my opinion.
Also, contrary to popular belief, the 90-91 Cluster shroud is bulky and ugly, and does not fit the countour of the whole entire car. Everything is boxy, it's a 80s car. Having a big round cluster shroud offsets the whole entire dash, fugly fugly fugly
The number of CRX's that are original to the point of being a classic car, is incredibly low. No CRX with 100k+ miles will be a "classic car" like you would see at a classic car show, or auction.

On the other hand, i think (i am assuming from experience) Honda made it that way because the 88-89 shroud would have sun glare and you wouldn't be able to see your cluster while driving sometimes. The 90-91 eliminates this problem by having the shroud hang over the cluster more vs the 88-89 model.
The 88-89 cluster is small and boxy.
The 90-91 is more rounded, larger, and over-all looks better in the car.
But hey, maybe the 88-89 version will become rare or something, and I'll be able to sell my factory CRX Si gauges for lots to Honda purists and nit-pickers like G0crxG0.
I guess sometimes people actually like ugly things.

Somehow I have a feeling that it won't matter how many miles a classic Honda has on it. More of a testament to what makes Hondas great. A like new, all original CRX Si, even with ~220k miles, may well be a pretty exciting thing to collectors in coming years! lol
Of course this is way off topic here.
