LED Headlight bulbs, Anybody have have any experiance with them? are the worth it?
like the title says i am looking for people have experience the LED replacement headlight bulbs. i want to see if they are worth looking into.
No LED alternative is bright enough to use as a drop in bulb replacement.
Even the car's that use LED headlamps from the factory need to use more than the normal number to get almost as much light as a typical halogen.
Cadillac with 4 "low beams":
Audi with 8:
Not Worth it Aye! i have to say i am a little dissapointed but oh well. i guess ill have to look into retro fits. thank for that info man
yeah leds are bright but not bright enough for low beams.. look into retrofits if you want the best output..
There are LED's that can pump out the lumens which far surpass a typical halogen bulb, however things like beam shape, heat, price and power consumption make it less appealing at this time.
For example, the SST-90 is a single die emitter that can put out over 2000 lumen. The 4 die model puts out over 6000 lumen. For comparison, a 9006 HB4 halogen bulb is only rated at roughly 900 lumen.
An LED plug and play bulb adequate for headlight use won't be available any time soon. There simply isn't enough mass to account for the heat or driver necessary to support this type of light source. The big name manufactures like Toshiba and Philips have struggled to make a household LED bulb which is equivalent to a 60W incandescent rated at 800 lumen... and this is a package capable of handling more emitters and more heat than tiny halogen based bulb.
High power LED's produce a lot of heat and heat is the number one enemy of LED's. Look at the Prius headlights. Nearly half of the housing is a heat sink. To make a reliable LED headlight work properly it needs to designed specifically for an LED.

i have found a set of ebay projectors for pretty cheap and in decent condition. i am planning on doing a retrofit eventually once my fund allow me to spend that much money on something like that. i want to know how will a PnP Hid Kit be affect in these? Beam Pattern and Cutoff? better than oem crx headlights?

No brand name generally means a terrible beam pattern, lots of glare, and overall poor visibility.

I ask because funds do not allow me to spend around 300 dollars on this right now. Just curious if anyone has ever done this?
