I just recently bought a 89 CRX dx, I AM NOT A MECHANIC. But here are the issues i am having.

As i drive start the car up it doesnt start sometimes, Battery is fine and i had my brother check it out and he says it doesnt have enough spark to start, so we swapped out the ignitor in the distributor. and it started up with a little extra juice from the battery charger plugged into the outlet. Now as i am driving the car it runs fine for about 5 minutes into driving the car it starts to rev really high when i AM NOT pressing on the gas. it jumps from 1k rpm to maybe 3-4k rpm. and stays that way for a while and then goes back to normal. and then it will do it again. does anyone know what might be wrong?

I was told the coil was bad in the distributor and it might need a new one (previous owner told me that), but my brother who is a mechanic said the coil seems fine to him.
