cam gear question

so i bought a adjustable cam gear off a guy saying it was for a single cam but its almost a half inch smaller than my stock cam gear is this normal or did he give me a camgear for a diffrent series

if im not mistakin you have to count the teeth. that should put you closer to the answer your lookin for

my stock cam gear has 38 teeth and the adjustable one has 35 will this cause a problem

You cannot use it.

Also, how does a cam gear have an odd number of teeth?
