Default Most common tranny fluid for a 5speed?

I was just wondering I always use the facotry tranny fluid . Does anyone use anything else ??

I have a 98 civic with a d16y8 with the stock tranny .. I've been using the factory tranny oil from Honda . Does anyone use any other products ?

MTF... we did a metal on metal test and Honda MTF out preformed any other oil... I need to make a vid of it... i wont use anything else again!

Also Moble one tested the worst it wouldnt keep the metal from grinding at all! The best was brad penn and schafer oils

i had a friend who used 5w-30. His tranny didnt last very long at all. Stick with honda mtf

Personally I've used motor oil and I have yet to have a problem but im not one to slam gears either.

After switching to Honda MTF from using regular 10w-30, my magnetic drain plug had about half as much metal stuck to it. And that's after driving a few thousand miles further as well.

Not very scientific, but it must mean something.


Magnetic transmission oil drain plugs are worth using.
