Ok, I have a 98 HX w/ a 1.6. I'm confused on this cause I have no CEL code, but whenever my rpm gauge goes over 3000 the needle starts bouncing around. Anyone have any ideas what this could be or has anyone experienced this?

 

When the rpms bounce, does the engine run poorly? Have the ICM inside the distributor tested by an auto parts store.

 

Yea, its starts to run weirdly when it happens, but do I remove it and just bring it into the store?

 

Yes, remove the ICM and take it to an auto parts store for testing. Remove the cap and rotor to access the ICM.

I had the same problem, had the icm and the coil tested and coil was on its last leg. Replaced coil w/ a new one and bouncy needle went away.
