door question
i own a 89 civic hatch std with pillar mounted seat belts that i kinda killed the door in. i just bought a door with the seat belts inside the door and ive noticed some obvious differences, i was just wondering if i could make it work.
Your seatbelt works without a door even being installed.
just keep using that.
If the other door fits and you don't mind the mismatch of hardware then it will function just like your old door.

right i understand that, but there are things on the seat belt mounted door that are most defintly not on the pillar mounted door, i guess i was asking if i remove those 2 studs on the top if the door will close all the way, i just wanna clean the car up since me and the car were born the same month and year.
With crx at least the 88 non belted door used on an originally door belted chassis will bolt up, close and latch; however you will are left with severe wind and weather leaks because the rubber door seal track takes a different path between the bottom line of the window and where the door catch is.
You should use the proper door for your car, unless you want to do alot of metal work and countless hours of fabricating.
Regardless if you have a crx or civic, If you have a pillar mounted car keep it that way and get the right non belted doors.
The pillar mounted door belt system absolutely sucks.

well you know i totally would, but ive been looking for a non belted door for a year now, i dont mind any of the cons really as long as i can get door to close and latch safely. i mean the car has severe wind and weather leakage issues anyway. it gets covered with a tarp

so i started doing the swap, it wont close but its close and i know why. it over hangs on the body about a 1/2 an inch. also theres a spot on the jam thats a little different, you have to cut out a section about 5 inchs high and 2 inchs wide, then weld in patch panels on the door. no big deal. all thats left is the trimming the excess metal on the door that overhangs.
ill soon to have pictures and what not, but this hasnt been easy and im only doing it as a last resort. besides i swindled the redneck junkyard owner out of his nice clean 90 model door for super cheap

lemme jump in here and ask a question... i have a 91 hatch si. (belts on the door) can i use a crx parts car and use those doors? mainly because i like the crx on the door panel and also im getting some racing seats w/ harness and itd look alot cleaner without the belts at all.
(and i think tech if your car dont have the seatbelts in it when its made you dont gota wear em
) lol... my uncle had a old jeep truck and they cant give him a seat belt ticket because it didnt have seatbelts in it. and if i can get the crx door with the belt not on it in there i can claim the same thing when the cop catches up to me

no the crx doors are too long. but on the otherhand i was sucessful in swapping a 91 door mounted belt door on my pillar mounted chasis.
it took a little cutting and i have some pictures, but i used my phone to take them.
trimming the overhanging metal was the really tricky part. i probably used 5 or 6 dremel cut-off wheels.
also when you trim the over hanging metal theres about 1/4 up to 1/2 of seam sealer that needs to be removed first. then i cut small sections of the overhanging metal, making sure to stay in line with the 89 body door lines. this took about 10 hours of slow and careful dremel work...
after doing this. i wont be doing it again, next time ill be finding the correct door i need. pictures will be up soon hopefully.

)CRX doors on a civic definately a no go.

it took a lot of work and ust dont do it, but this car was basically totaled before i started and now you cant really tell

Sorry for bumping this, but let's keep the info all in one thread...
On rrax, one guy says the 88-89 doors are 25lbs lighter per side.
That's significant enough for me to swap out.
Unfortunately I have a 91si - the heaviest ef of all.
Has anyone swapped 88-89 doors onto a 90-91 hatch?
What modifications had to be made?
Also, I've heard that Canadian ef's never got door mounted seatbelts, so maybe cdn doors from 90-91 would be a direct swap and save weight?
