Axle Nut...
Ok, I am trying to replace my studs and in the process I am going to take off my spindle and get them pressed out and back in since my new ones are a little bit larger knurial diameter. (Drill out, press in and spot weld...) now in the process I got the rotor off and everything but getting the axle nut off is nearly impossible!!! I've gotten my dad on it as well as me and neither of us can get it off, sprayed it up with WD-40, have a 3 foot breaker bar on it and still no dice... Man is this thing a left hand thread or something... somebody please help me out. how did you get yours off. Thanks.

Try getting a bigger bar. I used one about 6 foot long. Instead of pushing downward on the end of the bar using weight to break it loose, try to pull upward on the breaker bar. Use your legs... you can probably put more force on it that way...
Oh, the bolts are threaded like normal... righty tighty, lefty loosey

I just took my axle nuts off yesterday. If it's that had for you then your going to have to get help from another person. THats what I did. One of you push, while the other one pulls and it should come loose.
Yah, I was pulling up on it not pushing, so I was trying to use my legs and everything, but man I've leg pressed over 600 lbs and I still couldn't break that nut loose, my dad is a pretty strong man and he couldn't either, we decided to stop for now until we find out if it is infact a right-hand thread nut. Well we're gongto try to use an impact wrench on it on Monday (tomorrow) but anyway, anybody have any more help.

its not ******* worth your time. just take it somewhere.. i had Sears do mine for a piddley $70..... plus you run the risk of screwing up the bearings...
plus when u get done, its supposed to be torqued super high..
you can safely limp your car a few miles to a shop with a broken stud.

if you think the nut is bad, wait until you get the hub off... It's not like the back at all, the backs are a ****** the fronts require you to Press out the hub and you need a strong press, the axl nuts are nothing in comparrision. I run Skunk2 magnuesim nuts and Skunk2 studs

I hate to insult your intelligence, but you did pry out the the portion of the nut that is pounded into the key, right? Good. I got my spindle nuts off by sticking a five foot long length of chromoly tubing on the end of a 1/2" drive ratchet, they came off without much fuss. Actually that was just about the only thing the car that came apart without any drama when I pulled my transmission...
Haha, yah Man I pry'd out the little tab on the axle nut but I might try your idea of the bar... My jack handle comes in 2 pieces and the top piece that detached is like 3 feet extra maybee I could add that to my breaker bar and get some real leverage!!! Well until I get to the shop and get the impact wrench... Damn, I wish I had an air compressor!!!! Well, Thanks for all your help guys.

I have a air compressor, the biggest one sears has, like 600 ft/lbs loosening and that thing never gets those axle nuts off. I just have someone in the car with their foot on the brake turn the wheel a bit so the wrench isnt againt the body and put the longest extension pipe i can on there.....4ft, 6ft, 7ft, whatever. if it doesnt come off, use more leverage
I got mine off by this method.
With car on the floor in 1st gear, parking brake all the way up.
remove center cap to rim.
Use a 8th breaker bar. Apply lots of force and some WD-40
Pry out the dent in the bolt.
After a while it will turn.

I have that same one. It popped mine off without even unnotching the tabs. That impact wrench sucks if your cfm drop too low though. That was the first time my axles had ever been removed on my current car.
yeah man like they said. impact is your best bet.. but if u are gonna use a bar please make sure that the indention is pushed out on it. then give it all u got, call some friends over, order a pizza and camp out on the freakin thing.
