hey HT. Ive done TONS of research and am attempting to upgrade my crappy steal sunroof with a glass sunroof (moonroof).

I purchased a 91-95 legend moonroof and will attempt to fit it on to my crx and make some modifications to make it work. The moonroof panel arrives first week of november.

question before I start this - has anyone tried to do this before and if so any feedback?

I know the sizes are different so i will be getting creative but I think its a lot easier than trying to find a glass shop that will make a customer sized tempered panel.

Once the mods are done, if it ever needs replacement, no need for special order glass.

Ill post pictures and keep up on progress so stay tuned.

 

If you really have a RHD EF8, I hope to god you aren't about to try this on it.

sorry, my car is a USDM crx with RHD swap. Not a true ef8 but have most of the parts

 

not yet but I will once I get the legend moonroof

 

update: I might have come across 2 custom fitted tempered glass cut outs for the CRX sunroof. Ill be able to compare both the Legend glass to the Crx glass and take pictures. More on this Monday as im offline until then.

Prelude glass is NOT the same size. Also, the link youve sent is for a CUSTOM application. this is no direct fit glass for the CRX. If that were the case, there would be way more links available.

Should be getting my Legend glass today. Will show pictures.

 

I assume this has already been thought of but, is the ed/ef hatch sun roof different size then the crx?

 

none of the moonroofs are the same.

Got my Lengend glass last night. Will snap some pictures of the differences today and post. about .5" too tall and 1" too thin.

19.5 inches tall = legend
19.0 inches tall = CRX

Also to note, CRX/Legend from sunroof curvatures are different so I need to make some custom cuts to the Legend Glass.

I originally thought that the moonroof would be tempered glass only to discover that the Legend glass is Lamisafe or laminated glass. This can be cut to size, from what Im being told. Anyone have any experience doing this?

My plan is the remove the Legend glass from the metal from, measure wear to cut glass, create custom CF or FB frame, poly urethane custom lengend glass to new frame, install weather strip, and custom mount. I know it wont be this easy but the fun part is in the customizations

back is about moonroof .5" too tall. I can either cut the roof or cut the glass to size.

Sides are about 1.25" total (.625" each side too short)


just thought id throw in my s2k ap1 cluster with custom bezel.

 

Cluster looks great. Offhand, I would say cut the roof to fit the glass. Cut towards the front so it doesn't interfere with the hatch. I think it will be worth it if you can pull it off!
That said, I don't think the stock sunroof is really worth having. A glass version, yes!

 

I never thought about how the hatch could bump into the open sunroof. Ill take measurements

 

DON'T CUT THE ROOF once its cut you cant go back, it will never be the same. i would cut the Glass and re-tint. Please Please Please don't chop up your rex

 

It's a pain, but you can swap the roof. Also, he's looking at a half inch cut. Pretty easy to weld that back on if it comes off in one piece.
I know the stock sunroof gets close to the open hatch...1/2" longer might fit, but I haven't measured it.

Yeah definitely don't cut the Crx!! See if you can find a local glass shop who could cut the glass to size for you.. If not get a quote on a custom piece of glass but please don't cut your roof...

Also, I found a guy who has 2 custom made CRX moonroof glass panels which he is shipping to me this week. If all goes well, Ill be able to put together 1 extra panel that I can sell once completed.

hey HT. I have some great news. I just received my custom CRX Glass Sunroof.

Pictures to come. I got 2 of them just in case I screw one up! Will be working on a frame tomorrow so I can install.
