20x8x14 Slicks or Drag Radials?
I am at the point where I have to get new drag tires. I have been using a set of 14" HX wheels with Nitto 555Rs on them for over a year. They are on their last leg, so I have to get something new. I am having trouble deciding what I should get. The HX wheels are 14x5.5" and the 205-55/14 Nittos fit perfectly on them, but I'm not sure if 20x8 slicks would fit on the wheels or my application. I am putting down power in the 180's and torque in the 130's, but I don't know if 20x8 slicks would be too small or not. Should I just go with a BFG g-force drag radial or would a 20x8 slick be better? Please let me know what you guys think. Also will a 20x8 slick fit a 5.5" wide wheel?
20x8x14 MT slicks NEED a 14x7 wheel, but will work on a 14x6 rim. The only problem with a 6" rim is the outer edges will wear quicker at lower pressures, say 12-13 psi.
20x6x14's will work on the HX rims, but don't think they will have enough grip, esp. once you learn just how hard you can launch on slicks.
I have both sizes. My NA SOHC that puts down about 125-130 hp to the wheels is about the limit of the 20x6x14's at 13 psi with a 7800 rpm launch.
Yes, I did say SOHC and 7800 rpm launch in same sentence.
You could buy some 14x7 steelies for about $63 a piece and run the 20x8x14 slicks.
