Radio turns itself off then on again, SRS light too
Hey guys,
This is my 1st post.
I have a 2002 Civic LX Coupe.
A strange thing happened today...
While driving the (factory) radio turned itself off then on again and the SRS light on the cluster lit up then turned off. This has never happened before and happened 3 times today. I'm thinking it may have to do with the wet conditions.
Its been raining here for the past 2 days and I suspect that the harness may be losing connectivity or the ignition switch is failing.
Has anyone dealt with this before?
Any help would be appreciated.

After a little more driving I think I have narrowed it down to the alternator.
I can get the car to repeat the radio turning off by turning on anything that draws power, like the AC, headlamps or rear defogger.
Now I have to see if I can find a voltage regulator instead of replacing the whole alt.

I would take to autozone let them test the battery and alternator. It does sound like you have a bad alternator. I had a ford windstar do almost the same thing. It would turn off and then the volume would turn up by itself. We replaced the alternator and didn't have this problem again.
I was in the auto parts biz for a while and one thing I learned was that alternators typically never go bad. The bearings and internals are pretty resiliant but the voltage regulators are typically the parts that fail.
I just got off the phone with Honda and a new Voltage Regulator costs $268 and a new alternator is $293.
I have a supplier that has a re-man Bosch alternator for $150.
I'm going to continue to source out a voltage regulator,

I had a issue like the one your having 2 years ago, it rained for a few days straight, so everything was pretty damp, I was out one night and it was raining hard high winds(100 kmph) every now and then my lights would die, radio cut out and various lights on the cluster would come on and off, as well the tach and speedo would die, Eventually the car shut off and i got it towed home, next day i investigated and found many fuses blown in the engine bay fuse box and noticed water in the box itself, i took it apart and figured that with the rain and wind, water found its way up into the box where the main wire harness feeds in, I put a nice bead of silicone around it and sealed it up, replaced 5-6 fuses and 1 burnt out relay, Car started fine after and i never had a issue after.
just an update to the situation...
I took the battery in for testing and it turns out it was going bad.
I replaced the battery, all the weirdness has disappeared and it runs great.
Thanks guys.
