How many miles from your JDM H22A so far?
Just curious as to how these motors are holding up for everyone. I know places sell them as "Low-Mile" "40-60k mile" engines, but haven't seen any proof of that.
Almost 70k miles on mine so far, no issues, uses >1qt/1000 miles, still getting mid to high 20mpgs.

20-30k on mine, but its all hard miles, racing, joy-riding, etc. Doesn't burn much oil, but that's hard to tell with a VC leak that I'm too lazy to fix.
Hmo
4k oil pan gasket is leaking a lot, bad tstat (obviously should've replaced it, but at the time I didnt really even know where a tstat went)
runs though.

got my prelude with the JDM H22a in it and I've put about 10k on it. still running strong and only really burns oil when it gets close to needing an oil change but that's normal for these H motors.
question... what's the point of this thread??

haha exactly! actually I ran it to about 3.5k last time and it only really burned when I was hard on it. be nice to em and they won't burn that much.
but H22's have those FRM sleeves so they naturally burn oil more than B/D series.

I am not sure if the OP had this in mind, but there has been a good amount of conversation about the reliability of the H22a1 vs the H22a4 or the difference between 50mm and 55mm mains. Is there a difference in long term reliabity? If 50mm mains were adequate, why would Honda go up to 55mm? That type of talk!
Or it could be because he was just curious! :p
Either way, good info,
-b.

they really do have only 30-50k. its not a scam. the reason is because of insane japanese emission controls that end up costing more to own an old car than a brand new one, so they export the motors for profit.
if they really only had that kind of mileage why did my first swap come with a gauge cluster showing 90k miles? None of us knows exactly where those engines are coming from, you are buying them from an importer who is buying them in bulk from someone in Asia. Unless you are familiar with the supply chain from beginning to end you may be getting an engine from a junkyard in Australia that had 40k miles when it got to Australia, then was driven for 100k more miles then sold to an exporter who sold it as a low mileage engine since he knew that none of us know any better.
regardless i have bought 4 or 5 h22's from importers, and i put 10k to 45k miles on them with no problem. one of them i blew the headgasket boosting, then repaired it and sold it and it has gone for another 40k or so without a problem.
