Okay so after hours of searching i found one thread and no answers.

I have an 1990 DX Sedan and am having a rather interesting issue.

With headlights off and i press the brake the instrument lights turn on.
With the headlights on without pressing the brake the 3rd brake light is constantly on. The lights dim and brighten when you press the brake.

Also today the "DOOR" light came on and stays on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Sounds like a short somewhere. check some of your wires around brake light plunger....
and grounds for instrument panel

 

check alternator ground causes crazy stuff to happen

Alright well while I was checking the sockets for loose wires I came across a socket that had some corrosion I cleaned it up and replaced the bupb and it took care of the issue. Thanks for the help though. I appreciate it.

 

Also the door light issue was the fuse blew.

 

i wish i could be so lucky. i have no instrument lights at all. 91 civic lx 4 door. red with blk wire is hot to the back of the cluster. radio light wire also hot but no lights. running lights all work but no gauge lights.
