Hey Im repacing the bearings in my f23, and wanted to know what the clearance range for the main and rod. Im going to run a straight bearing, this is not a race motor it is for just my daily beater. Thanks guys for your help.

.001-.002 - measure it with green Plastigage. I wouldn't know about that but a year ago my daughter's husband ran her 1993 Accord out of oil on the freeway and I had to replace the bearings to get them a few more months of service!

Anyway, .001-.002 is pretty much standard for engines that take 5W-30 oil, according to the mechanic at work.

Yes - for both. I only replaced the lower halves of the main bearings because I was not going to drop the crank if I didn't have to, and the forces were mostly downward anyway, so I don't know much about special notes about the keyways on the mains. The rod bearings are keyed but I recall there was something counter-intuitive about which way the tabs went. Be sure to note that as you take the old ones out. Because the bearings are springy it is not possible even to do a sanity check on the fit without actually assembling them.

One of the frustrations I had was in getting the main bearing bridge back on. I had to rotate the crank to get the rods attached and that slid the thrust washers out of position. Be sure to tap those back into place with a drift before fitting the bridge or you won't be able to figure out why it won't go on.
