Default New to Honda-Tech

Hey guys! Im new to HT. Im a member of other lude sites like PP and PZ just thought Id Join this forum because I find a mojority of my research on this site and it would be more helpful if I were a member! I currently own a 95 Prelude vtec model......I am in the process of saving for a swap and eventually turbo! I also am on a mission to learn everything possible about my lude and how it functions. I know that theres a never ending amount of knowledge that needs to be learned and that it takes alot of research and experiences to get to the place I want to get to. I am willing to go the distance! lol Just thought id do a small intro. Heres a couple pics of my car. Its not the cleanest lude out there but its a work in progress!

Welcome!

That's a very nice lude to start from!

You mentioned you were looking for a swap, what are you planning to swap in there? Looks like you already have an H22 in there ...

If you're into that I guess, but he'd end up spending at least $2-3k to get limited HP numbers, maybe +30HP with a Z3 head and good tuning. $2k for 30hp is a bit ridiculous.

To each their own though ...

^ Thanks alot guys!......Well I'm going to go with a H23a vtec and a m2b4 tranny next spring. Then possibly going to turbo low psi stock block while I save for a full rebuild! it should be pretty fun once I get it going.

My advice would be to keep the H22, get the LSD tranny.

Use the money you would have spent on the H23v to buy parts for the H22. The H23 and H22 blocks are the same, the difference being the stroke and pistons. I should clarify that the H23v has 55mm mains where the OBD1 H22 has 50mm mains.

Keeping the H22 will also save you the pain of figuring out the OBD2 wiring differences for the distributor. Research it, people have had random issues with trying to get the wiring figured out.

If you're bent on getting the 2.3L VTEC action, swap a 95mm H23 crank and rods into your block. You'll have to research the right pistons for getting a 9-10:1 compression ratio for your turbo build though.

I just wanted to point out that there are better ways to spend your money when you have a good motor to start with.

If your H22 was blown right now, an H23v would be a good-ish idea.

Thanks for the advise! Well right now my h22 is coming up on 280,000 miles (I have an original vtec model Lude) theirs numerous leaks and problems with it right now. So I kind of would just like to fresh start fresh. I also like the h23v because of the low end torque. To make it obd1 all I have to do is swap off all of my h22 accessories and bolt them to my h23v correct? I also would like to keep my h22 in my garage and slowly fully build for high psi boost eventually.

I think the OBD2 to OBD1 issue has to do with sensors that were moved from the distributor to the crank pulley.

There are a few threads on the H23V. Be careful that you are looking at the right info though because there is a different kind of H23V that is built using the H23 crank and rods with the H22 pistons and head. That's a completely different motor. Generally if you see mention of bending or modding oil squirters in the thread, they're talking about the built H23V not the JDM H23V.

I'll have to do a little more research for my obd2 to obd1 conversion. Of course I'm gonna make sure I get the jdm h23v. The jdm h23v does not have oil squiters right? whats are the advantages/disadvanteges of not having them?

Welcome man!

Excuse my ignorance, but can you do all that in Cali with their emissions etc.? Or is that just certain parts of Cali?
