the D16A1 is not a direct swap into the 91 Si - the D16A1 has different mounts, different starter attachment and slightly different bolt pattern where the transmission bolts to the engine - you will need to fabricate a new driver's side engine mount as the D16A1 mount is on the front (toward radiator) side of the block and not on the end like the 88-91 engine - there are no holes in the end of the block for attaching a mount - the D16A1 block does not have a hole for the long starter bolt - you would need to bolt it to the transmission case - the bottom rear bolt for the transmission doesn't line up - you would need to elongate the hole in the block in order to get the bolt in - if the D16A1 is 86-87, you will have several problems with the distributor as the 86-87 D16A1 used a vacuum advance ignition system - if the engine is 88-89, you will need to swap distributor connectors and wire up the cylinder sensor on the end of the exhaust camshaft

the only DOHC D-series engines that will bolt right in are: 88-91 JDM DOHC ZC - 88-91 European D16A8, D16A9 or D16Z5

you can use the 92-95 JDM DOHC ZC with a few modifications

I dont think you get what he is trying to tell you. No matter how you look at it if you want to put a d16a1 into an ED (ef) you will have to custom fab your mount(s). There is no USDM dohc that will swap in directly. Since you said you dont want to make you own mounts if you haven't bought the d16a1 yet I wouldn't buy it and if you have I would try trading it for something else.

You should buy a 3rd generation Civic (86-87), and swap it into that. Would make for a fun car!

not unles you make mounts for it - it mounts completely different from 88-91 CRX/Civic transmission
