so i bought a 97 civic EX 2-door yesterday and i was given two keys. the really weird thing is that one of the keys ONLY works for the ignition, and it won't unlock either door. the other key will only unlock the passenger side door, and the trunk, but won't unlock the driver door and won't start the ignition. what could possibly be the problem with my doors?

 

sounds like you have different lock cylinders in the doors

unless you want to live with it, your gonna have to have the dealer get door lock cylinders and a key made with the vin on the car

Honda dealerships are able to rekey your doors with a cheaper kit without replacing the cylinders all together.

 

i got it at a used car dealership, should i go to a honda one anyways?

 

As other said your ignition has a different key, maybe it was replaced.

Did they give you a keyless fob?

Does it still have the factory radio, if so you can get a fob and program it to work.

Does anykey open the drivers door then?

What are the chances it has a different drivers door lock and ignition key too.

Did you run a car fax on it, was it in an accident? I am wondering if the drivers door was hit, got a junk replace door and never changed over the lock cylinder.

 

Does the key that works the ignition hardly have any "teeth" on it?
