Looking to find out how to know if my AC evaporator is good or needs replacement. My car had everything when I bought it, but the car didn't run so I never tested the system, the car is now swapped, but I'm going to end up running AC. Gonna rebuild my compressor, buy a new condenser and dryer/filter, the next big item is the evaporator, no sense in replacing it though if it doesn't need it though.
Also, the system was r12 (90 civic sedan) I'm going to be running the r134 compressor off an Integra as well as r134 freon. Does anyone know how I can either test my evaporator or any insight on the subject before I install this?
Thanks!

you can flush the evaporator to make sure its clean. and before getting it recharge, have it vacuum tested for 1-2 hour. if it passes the vacuum tested then you should be ok. also make sure to put dye in the system to detect any future leaks.

when you retrofit the system for r134a apply some dye and also when you evac the system and holds vac you should be ok as far as any leaks go. but with dye inside you will be able to locate any leaks with a uv lamp.

gotcha, here's the thing, everything is currently out of the car. I just rebuilt my motors for the hvac boxes, cleaned them, and put all new seals on everything. Basically everything will be new except the compressor and evaporator (if this one is good) I will be having new custom lines put in so they don't run across the middle of the engine bay. Would it make sense to just replace it then if I'm doing that, it's like $80 on rockauto, just an expense that I'd rather save if possible...

i would replace the compressor or have it rebuild if its been expose to moisture for a long time. the evaporator should be fine, i would probably flush it out to make sure its clean
